Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Mister Peepers"
Answer: Harvey Weskit
Played by Tony Randall.
Harvey Weskit was a history teacher as Jefferson City Junior High School, and a colleague of the title character Robinson Peepers, the science teacher.
Actor Tony Randall's role as Weskit was supposed to be a single-episode character. But he impressed the producer of the show with his work that the role was expanded, appearing in more than half the series's 112 episodes.
2. "Room 222"
Answer: Alice Johnson
Played by Karen Valentine.
Alice Johnson was initially a student teacher being mentored by the history teacher, Mr. Pete Dixon (Lloyd Haynes).
3. "Boston Public"
Answer: Ronnie Cooke
Played by Jeri Ryan.
Ronnie Cooke was initially a teacher. She became an assistant vice principal, then a guidance counselor.
4. "Recess"
Answer: Alordayne Grotke
Voiced by Allyce Beasley.
Miss Grotkey was a beloved fourth-grade teacher at Third Street School. She was the teacher of the six main characters. She was warm and kind, but a bit eccentric.
5. "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide"
Answer: Mr. Monroe
Played by Jim J. Bullock.
Mr. Monroe was the Life Science and Health teacher at James K. Polk Middle School. He was also the advisor for Sewing Club. He had a dark secret: he was a bully when he was in school. He learned to be a kinder person since then.
The character's name -- Monroe -- was probably taken from the show "Too Close For Comfort", where actor Jim J. Bullock played Monroe Ficus.
6. "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"
Answer: Keiko O'Brien
Played by Rosalind Chao.
Keiko O'Brien (wife of Chief Miles O'Brien) had been a civilian botanist when she lived and worked on the USS Enterprise-D. She followed her husband to Deep Space Nine. Once there, she noticed that the children of the families there were left to their own devices, causing trouble. (Most notably how Quark's nephew Nog was a bad influence on Commander Sisko's son Jake.) With permission from Sisko, she opened a school on the station. One of her first pupils was Nog, who was dragged there by his father Rom.
Her school ran into controversy when she taught about the beings that lived in the Gamma-Quadrant wormhole in secular terms. To the Bajorans, they were the Prophets, the supernatural beings of their religion. Some radicals -- perhaps led or inspired by Vedek Winn -- bombed Keiko's school, thankfully when nobody was in it.
7. "Fame"
Answer: Lydia Grant
Played by Debbie Allen.
Lydia Grant was the dance teacher at New York City High School for the Performing Arts.
Actress Debbie Allen also appeared as Lydia in the movie "Fame" (1980). Her character was supposedly a student in the movie, but it wasn't really clear that she was. Allen was also the choreographer of the TV show.
8. "Glee"
Answer: Sue Sylvester
Played by Jane Lynch.
Sue Sylvester was the cheerleading coach at William McKinley High School. She was a devious character, scheming against the Glee Club, named New Directions. In the fifth season, she gets promoted to principal, and disbands New Directions for budgetary reasons, despite the club's stellar performance at Nationals.
9. "Abbott Elementary"
Answer: Melissa Schemmenti
Played by Lisa Ann Walter.
Melissa Schemmenti is a second/third grade teacher at Abbott Elementary. She cares deeply for her students, though does have a temper that gets her in trouble at times.
10. "Kim Possible"
Answer: Steve Barkin
Voiced by Patrick Warburton.
Steve Barkin is an administrator and full-time substitute teacher at Middleton High School. He monitors the after-school detention, authorizes improvements to the school (like voice-activated lights), chaperones field trips, and covers other teachers' absences for a variety of subjects: gym, statistics, home economics.
He moonlights as a worker at Smarty Mart, which is where his true passion lies. He also is a troop leader for Pixie Scouts (like Girl Scouts).
