Sitting at home eating microwaved chicken wings, Stacey flips through the channels on her TV and watches infomercials. Hearing a loud banging downstairs, she mutes her program and grabs an axe, nervously heading downstairs into her taxidermy studio to investigate. She keeps hearing the noise, but there doesn't appear to be anyone else in the house. She calls her husband, Keith, a police officer at the local station, and he talks her down from her anxiety, insisting that it's just an old house; there's never been anyone inside when she's heard a noise.

The next day at the bank, Stacey listens to the other women behind the counter and realizes that she's not completely in on their gossip. As Gina, one of her co-workers, takes a bottle of purple lotion and spreads it on her hands, Stacey takes particular notice.

As Stacey cleans up and prepares to go home for the evening, one of her colleagues comes by with a Santa hat and insists on pulling the last name from it-- the office has Secret Santa the next day. She pulls Gina's name, of all people.

This is why when Stacey heads home, she grabs her shotgun and goes out to collect a duck, bringing it back and starting in on her taxidermy work. Meticulously, she removes the flesh of the bird, stuffs it with the replacement innards, stitches it back together, and fills in the eyes. When Keith gets home, he's a bit surprised that Gina would be so inviting, besides which, Stacey never liked the other women at work. She insists it's different now, and while he goes off to eat reheated chicken wings and watch televised poker tournaments, she finishes the duck, dresses up, and heads out for the party.

Arriving at Gina Kapov's place to find a number of sports cars in its massive driveway, Stacey hauls her gift to the door and rings the doorbell. Gina's massive dog, Delilah, is the first to greet her and it turns out to be a bit of an omen as, once she heads into the living room for the festivities, she already finds herself on the outside of the womens' circle, not only physically, but in terms of their conversation. Stacey can barely get a word in as the others talk about sex, their divorces, and facelift procedures, but soon they shift into the excitement of their not-so-secret Santas.

The first concern for Stacey is the fact that the Secret Santa isn't so secret; Gina reveals that she bought everyone gifts because she knew the one thing they all wanted. As the women tear open their wrapping paper, each finds that they've received a box containing the lotion she'd been using at work: Alo Glo.

Stacey takes the opportunity to give Gina the gift she made for her-- a large package containing a taxidermy duck. It doesn't go quite so well. Before long, the ladies are back to their lotions. Stacey joins the others in applying the Alo Glo but, unlike the other women who take an almost erotic pleasure in using the product, Stacey seems to have an allergic reaction to it. She's sent home with an ice pack to keep the redness down.

Stacey returns home and Keith says the obvious-- she's probably allergic. Last Christmas, when she tried a new lavender perfume, it made her neck similarly splotchy. Stacey, as they know, has sensitive skin; it's just a shame the best lotion in the world doesn't work for her.

That night, Stacey can't sleep. Instead, she stares at her rash in the mirror before heading downstairs to find the tube of Alo Glo leaking out onto the coffee table. Turning on the TV, she flips to an infomercial for Alo Glo which promises that it'll change her mind, body, and soul. The commercial gets weirder though, implying that the lotion will make it so the ladies at the bank will never laugh at her again. Alo Glo can fix it.

Soon, the infomercial addresses her by name; the announcer tells her that he can change her into what she wants most. Despite how silly it feels, Stacey responds to the screen and says that the lotion makes her feel itchy and painful. It is, as the announcer says, just the body and skin healing. The more it itches, the more healing it is doing. She'll need more Alo Glo if she wants to be the good-looking person that others accept. It's why she calls and gives over her credit card number.

Stacey awakens the next morning to find that someone is at her door. Sure enough, it's the delivery person there to drop off her express package of Alo Glo products, a massive box that she brings to the basement, cuts open, and peers into. What she finds is twenty-eight tubes of the lotion ready to be used.

When Keith comes downstairs he finds that Stacey has not only called into work sick, but that her face and hands have gotten worse. She claims that it mostly just itches but isn't really a problem anymore. He suggests that she stop using Alo Glo, but she reminds him that men don't have it as hard as women. She asks him to be supportive though he's worried for her.

When Keith leaves for work, Stacey applies more lotion, slathering it on her face and body and taking her place back in front of the TV. At night, Keith tells her to wear oven mitts; she's scratching herself raw. When she goes downstairs to get them, the TV turns itself on and the announcer beckons her over.

Stacey is beckoned back to her TV by the man from the infomercial and she doesn't stop herself from revealing her progress. It's gotten worse; she worries she's allergic. The man tells her to trust him. His only reminder is that she needs to go all the way if she wants to know what it's like to be pretty. The new life she wants is already growing inside her, under her skin.

When the TV shuts itself off, she goes downstairs to get more Alo Glo and she finds the tubes opening themselves and squeezing out their contents. It scares her enough to send her racing upstairs to bed. She wakes Keith and asks him to stay home from work, but he refuses.

By morning, the Alo Glo box overflows with lotion, oozing into a mass on the basement floor. Stacey's rash worsens by the time she wakes up.

Stacey finds that her rash is expanding, drying, and cracking when she wakes up, and while she's staring in the mirror Keith returns from work. She takes to tearing at her skin, pulling the top layers off to reveal what's underneath with an almost manic-laughter. When she heads downstairs, she tells Keith not to say anything about the condition of her skin, but he's quite distressed. It's clearly not healing despite her insistence. Keith reminds her that there's nothing wrong with her-- she's lovely inside and out-- but she still wants to tear off her skin and throw it into the garbage.

Stacey stomps down into the basement to find what's waiting for her. In the night, the Alo Glo that spilled onto the floor transformed itself into a humanoid figure and rose from the puddle it created. As she approaches it, it mirrors her movements before they lock hands and embrace each other.

Stacey collects a scalpel from the basement and returns to the living room where Keith, shocked to find her covered head-to-toe in Alo Glo, says that she's lost her mind. Stacey claims, however, that she's never felt better. Keith reminds her how great she is and of all the traits he loves about her. He thinks she's perfect, but she thinks that's what's wrong with him.

The new her is already present, Stacey announces, and her transformation is too far along to be stopped. Keith won't change and he doesn't want her to change, and that's why she's convinced into stabbing him in the forehead with her taxidermy scalpel. He sits down and pulls the scalpel out before starting to radio for backup. Before he can, Stacey grabs her axe and finishes him off.

Stacey, having killed her husband, heads upstairs and follows the gooey, massive footprints into the bathroom where the Alo Glo figure waits next to the tub. The lotion sloughs out of its form to fill the bath and, without thinking hard about her options, Stacey eases herself into it, submerging herself and laughing all the way down.

When Stacey leaves the bathroom she remains covered in Alo Glo and walks to the bedroom to commence her physical transformation. The top layer of her skin almost peels away, revealing a radiant underlayer. She rushes downstairs when the Alo Glo is removed from her body, eager to tell Keith that it worked, but all that waits for her is his corpse, right where she left it. She pulls it into the basement and gets to work.

Once Keith is in the basement, Stacey enjoys a new taxidermy project, making use of her dead husband's body as an outer layer. She disembowels him before propping him up properly.

Returning to her room, Stacey cuts her hair, puts on a sexy, new dress and accessories, and prepares to head out, leaving Keith's taxidermied body seated in front of the TV. She heads to the bank for work and arrives to find her coworkers amazed by her transformation. The others ask if she got work done and she plays a bit coy about it all. They all have to admit that she looks beautiful; it's surreal. As they gossip and laugh about mundanities, they all plan to go out for drinks and admire her new self.
