Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Owner of Diddley Squat Farm

Answer: Jeremy Clarkson

Jeremy Clarkson first became well-known as a television presenter on the BBC's "Top Gear" motoring show, which he presented from 2002-2015, as well as its successor, "The Grand Tour" (2016-2024) for Amazon Prime. In 2019 he made the surprise decision to start running his own Cotswold Farm, albeit with an Amazon TV crew on hand. The first series of the resulting show, "Clarkson's Farm" (2021), was a surprise hit, and three further series had been shown up to 2025, with a fifth in the pipeline.

The show was praised for raising the profile of British farming, and highlighting the many problems it faced, especially from unhelpful bureaucracy and the British weather. Farmers liked the way it stressed the reality of the business, and Clarkson himself came across as genuinely interested in helping local farmers to sell their produce.
2. Girlfriend of the owner, runs the farm shop

Answer: Lisa Hogan

Jeremy Clarkson's Dublin-born girlfriend, Lisa Hogan, assists him around the farm and takes on the running of the farm shop, which opens during Season 1. Clarkson's idea is to use the shop to sell the farm's produce direct to the customer, although at first this consists largely of lots and lots of potatoes.

However, after the first series of the programme has been shown and people start visiting, the shop becomes almost too popular, which itself causes problems with the local council.
3. Local farm worker, later farm manager

Answer: Kaleb Cooper

Kaleb Cooper is a young local farmer who Clarkson initially employs to assist him with the day-to-day running of the farm and provide general advice on all areas of farming. Aged only 21 when the show starts, he is nevertheless very knowledgeable about farming (almost to the exclusion of anything else) and spends much of his time getting exasperated by Clarkson's numerous agricultural mistakes.

Their bantering relationship is a key element of the show, and Kaleb eventually achieved enough fame to enable him to write several books and tour the UK with a one-man show based on his experiences.
4. Land agent and professional agronomist

Answer: Charlie Ireland

Charlie Ireland is the brains of the show, the one man who understands the economics of the farming business, including the mind-numbing bureaucracy and the difficulties in making any kind of profit out of it. Whenever Jeremy comes up with another madcap scheme to make the farm pay, poor Charlie's brow becomes even more furrowed, as he explains the different hoops that need to be jumped through to make the thing happen. That said, he appears to be supportive of Jeremy's efforts, and goes out of his way to help him achieve his aims, however impossible they may seem.
5. Farmer, dry stone waller and "head of security"

Answer: Gerald Cooper

Gerald Cooper is another local farm worker who helps on Diddley Squat Farm. Despite their shared surname, he is no relation to Kaleb. He is a skilled dry stone waller, a skill that he often needs to employ every time Jeremy drives another piece of farm machinery into one wall or another.

He also speaks with a very broad Cotswold accent, meaning that much of his local wisdom is sadly unintelligible to the bemused Jeremy. During the third season of the show, he is revealed to be receiving treatment for prostate cancer, and there is much genuine delight when he responds well to treatment and is able to take up his old job again.
6. Local veterinary surgeon

Answer: Dilwyn Evans

The Welshman Dilwyn Evans is the local vet who attends to most of the animals which Jeremy introduces to the farm, including the flock of sheep in season one, the cows in season two and the pigs in season three. He occasionally comes in to help with difficult births, as well as managing the various diseases and ailments to which the animals are susceptible.

This includes the dreaded bovine tuberculosis, which is a serious disease often contracted from badgers, and that threatens the Diddley Squat herd on more than one occasion.
7. Temporary farming assistant in Season 4

Answer: Harriet Cowan

During the first part of season four, when Kaleb is swanning around the country with his one-man stage show, Jeremy has to employ some additional help with the day-to-day running of the farm. This takes the form of Harriet Cowan, a young nurse and farmer from Derbyshire, who turns out to be a more than adequate replacement. She turns out to have a thriving social media account on TikTok, where she posts videos of her farming experiences, much to the bemusement of Jeremy and Charlie.

It's a bit of a shame when Kaleb returns halfway through the season and Harriet has to leave, although she makes a guest appearance later in the season, advising Jeremy on the tricky business of buying cattle at auction.
8. A pig

Answer: Richard Ham

In season three, Jeremy decides to add a herd of pigs to the farm's stock of animals. He chooses an old British breed known as Oxford Sandy and Black, and puts them in one of his woods, where they can run free and forage among the undergrowth. After initial problems with an unusual number of deaths among the new-born piglets, they become a successful part of the business. Jeremy names the diminutive runt of one of the litters Richard Ham (a clever pun on his "Top Gear" colleague Richard Hammond, known for his small stature).

At first, poor Richard Ham is bullied by his larger siblings, but eventually finds his feet (more or less).
9. A cow

Answer: Pepper

At the start of season two, Jeremy branches out by investing in cattle, with the aim of using their meat in the restaurant he plans to start in an abandoned farm building. One of the cows, a cream-coloured heifer named Pepper, is established as Jeremy's favourite, but problems arise when she resolutely fails to get pregnant. A heifer that you can't breed from is no use on a working farm, and for a while it looks as if Pepper is headed for the abattoir, but in the closing moments of season two, Jeremy goes soft and decides to keep her anyway.

The Pepper saga continues into season three, when the restaurant is closed down by the local council and a lot of the cattle have to be sold. Once again Pepper seems to be headed for the chop, but it is later revealed (in a slightly contrived season finale) that she has been saved again, gone to another farm, and at last become pregnant and had a calf. Aw!
10. A ram

Answer: Wayne Rooney

During the first season of "Clarkson's Farm", Jeremy decides to diversify from arable farming and buy a flock of sheep, figuring that he can breed them as well as selling their wool, and they will browse calmly and cheaply in a couple of the fields. Needless to say, things don't exactly go to plan: the sheep turn out to be experts at escaping, and the sheared fleeces turn out to be worth little more than £1 each.

Jeremy then buys two rams for breeding purposes, and names them Leonardo DiCaprio and Wayne Rooney. Wayne and Leonardo carry out their duties well enough, and 134 lambs are successfully delivered, but then tragedy strikes, and poor Wayne is found dead, having unexpected expired as a result of a twisted intestine. RIP Wayne Rooney.
