Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Believing the island to be safe from the old curse, Tom plans to take Evan to which of these?

Answer: A Red Sox game

The day after Tom and Wyck brought Richard Warren out past the furthest buoys marking the waters of Widow's Bay, the town had a sunny day with tourists flocking in. At the restaurant, the two of them (and Patricia) sat for an enjoyable and friendly meal. Wyck even said he'd see Tom around, a positive sign for their relationship.

Optimistic about the future, Tom plans on taking Evan to a Red Sox game. At town hall, he prints out the tickets and puts them into an envelope as Ruth comes by, complaining that the phones have been ringing off the hook. After all, Tom's been missing for two days. He assures her that everything is fine-- finally.
2. Patricia ends up ordering take-out but she receives the wrong food. In response she phones the restaurant seeking which of these?

Answer: The employee responsible be taught a lesson

Patricia, planning to spend a quiet evening at home, prepares her take-out and a glass of wine before opening the styrofoam containers and finding that they forgot some key ingredients... or rather the dishes she actually ordered. Instead of a chicken parm and a slice of coconut creme pie, she actually got the pieces of a turkey burger and a single cooked hot dog (no bun). She calls the restaurant not necessarily to get a refund or get anyone in trouble, as she explains; she just wants them to know and learn.

Tom, meanwhile, gets home to find Evan waiting for him in the living room, seated with the belongings from his dresser drawers. Concerned that Evan found what was in the basement, Tom stands in shock. Evan can only be confused-- if this was in the dresser, what could be in the basement?
3. Tom tells the truth to Evan: his mother didn't actually die in childbirth. She died two years later, but by which means?

Answer: Brain aneurysm

Evan calls immediate attention to the pictures he found in his dad's lockbox, specifically the ones that feature both him and his mother, together. Tom clarifies that he always meant what he said about Evan's mother-- she was never the same after he was born. The reason is that during the birth, she had a preeclampsia-induced stroke and, after that, she wasn't right; it did something to her brain and it affected her behaviour in unexpected ways. She wasn't safe to be around and she had to be committed to the home.

The home, as he explains, used to be a facility in Widow's Bay that treated people with conditions like hers, and while no one would say it, it was somewhat of an asylum. Tom lets Evan know that she died two years after the stroke of a brain aneurysm, and she did love him very much in spite of the issue.
4. Which of these was stolen from the Historical Society museum?

Answer: A mask

At the historical society, Wyck visits Gerrie unexpectedly and asks that they talk. When he takes a seat he prepares to explain the photo he'd been keeping in his wallet for decades... only to be interrupted by Gerrie's husband. As he departs, unable to explain himself due to the awkwardness of the situation, he notices that something is amiss in the museum-- a display has been broken into. The Murderer's Mask, allegedly belonging to the Boogeyman, has been taken. Gerrie's husband blames the tourists' kids.

When Wyck arrives at the Boogeyman's house to check in, he discovers that the once-boarded front door has been smashed open.
5. Where is Patricia when the Boogeyman attacks her?

Answer: Her house

Patricia, tossing out her old and least-liked clothing from her closet and preparing to donate them, stumbles upon an old high school yearbook and begins to look through it when she hears the sound of a horn honking from outside. Rising to investigate it, she discovers that it's her own car alarm sounding, specifically the one for the Pattiwagon, and she quickly and easily turns it off. She doesn't notice that her front door, which she closed on the way out, is wide open upon returning.

Ready for bed, Patricia turns out the lights around the home, not noticing anything is amiss until she hears a creaking from her spare bedroom... and then a low breathing. She sidles away from the door and heads back downstairs, grabbing her taser from the hall table (though it's only at 2% battery life) and slipping out the front entrance.

That's when the Boogeyman appears, approaching her from her home and pursuing her, masked and with a knife in-hand, through the neighbourhood.
6. Patricia is able to charge her taser at Kris' house while she and the other women are doing which activity?

Answer: Holding a book club

Patricia runs through town with the killer in slow but consistent pursuit and she attempts to knock on neighbours' doors, calling for help at one house after another and finding that no one is awake or willing to answer. At the same time, Wyck arrives at Patricia's house to find that the front door is wide open and no one is around.

It's because the chase is still on. Patricia reaches Kris' house to find the lights on and she lets herself in, right as the other women are in the middle of their book club for "The Lovely Bones". She locks the door behind her, plugs in her taser, and begs them to call the police, but the phones appear to be down.

It's an odd moment though. Kris, who's never really liked Patricia, says that she's making it all about her and gets Patricia to admit that she lied about receiving calls from the Boogeyman all those years ago, but it doesn't change that she believes someone was in her house back then, and he's certainly real now. The reason that she has no friends, Kris says, is because she's insane, and on top of that, her Sunset Cocktails nearly killed everyone. She's annoying and she should go bye-bye.

Patricia tases her before departing.
7. At one point, the Boogeyman is struck by which of these?

Answer: A vehicle

Patricia returns to the street once she leaves Kris' and cautiously watches out for any sign of the Boogeyman... only to turn around and find that he's upstairs, watching from one of the bedrooms. She shouts to the women inside to get out, but they ignore her, perhaps intentionally, while the killer steps back from the window. It's to get a running jump; he powers through the windowpane and collapses to the ground only to rise again.

This time when Patricia tries to run, she gets tangled in the cord for her taser, falling over before she can really get some distance. Before the Boogeyman can attack, however, he's struck by a vehicle.

The vehicle turns out to be an ambulance, and when Patricia comes to, she opens her eyes to find a paramedic crouched over her. Unfortunately, there's another paramedic checking on the Boogeyman, and when he notices there's a pulse, it's too late to do anything about the knife sliding across his throat. Instead of staying around to find out what's next, Patricia heads back out on the run.
8. Why was Tom not willing to show Evan photos of his mother?

Answer: Because they made him sad

At the Loftis house, Evan continues to go through his mother's deranged letters to him, melancholically reciting them one-by-one. It's enough to convince Tom to show him some other photos of her, ones from a time before he was born, that he'd been hiding in an envelope behind the living room shelves. The woman in these photos, he says, wouldn't want Evan to remember her for the woman she became. These photos are the ones he kept hidden because they make him sadder than he already was.

Evan asks him point-blank why they can't leave the island, but Tom has a surprise for him-- the Red Sox tickets. They're real. They're going to make a weekend out of it in Boston and things are going to be different from this point forward.
9. Who survives the night?

Answer: Patricia

Patricia keeps running through Widow's Bay, screaming for help, until she reaches a gas station where, coincidentally, Sheriff Bechir is picking up some late and much-needed essentials. She looks down at her taser and realizes it's at 1%-- just enough for a single blast-- and she grabs the hose for the gas pump with a ploy in mind. The problem is that the clerk inside needs to turn it on.

It's when she runs inside that Bechir notices what's going on. She gets $20 on pump three, splashes it around on the ground, and when the Boogeyman steps in the gasoline, she tries to light it ablaze. And it works-- the killer steps into the flames and lights up immediately, passing through the fire.

The gas station attendant, having witnessed the whole thing, still grabs a fire extinguisher and heads outside to put out the flames, ruining her effort immediately. By the time smoke clears, the attendant is in the killer's grasp. Bechir grabs a shotgun from behind the register but this, too, seems useless as the Boogeyman grabs it, tosses it aside, and slices at the Sheriff's stomach.

Moments before the Boogeyman can plunge the blade into the injured Bechir, Patricia opens fire on the killer, shooting him twice, up-close, with the discarded shotgun. When he's finally down on the ground, she keeps the gun aimed on him. Even in the ambulance... and the morgue... and the crematorium. They burn him that night, even showing her the ashes before she's satisfied that she has nothing more to do in the matter.
10. Wyck has to break the news to Tom-- the curse isn't over. What's happening as he relays this message?

Answer: A storm rolls in

Wyck finally finds Patricia at the hospital after the night has already come to its conclusion, and the two of them aren't the only ones there. Bechir, having been injured in the encounter with the dormant serial killer, is treated in one of the beds with his pregnant wife, Chelle, by his side, and while the both of them watch the news report-- storms on the horizon for Widow's Bay-- Patricia stops by. She comments that she didn't know Chelle was pregnant, and Bechir jokes with her about this, blaming it on the morphine. It's particularly shocking to Patricia; she asks if Tom knows. She's utterly serious when she tells Bechir that the baby can't be born in Widow's Bay.

While Tom and Evan enjoy a later dinner and eagerly discuss the idea of looking into potential colleges, they hear a knock at the door. Tom opens it to find Wyck, there to let them know that the curse isn't over. Outside, the thunder starts to roll and the wind picks up.
