Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After Reverend Bryce's death, Tom institutes which of these in an effort to protect the island?

Answer: A curfew

At the town hall, Tom has Dale issue an announcement on behalf of the island, declaring that there will be a mandatory curfew put in place between 7pm and 7am on account of Reverend Bryce's death and the other weird goings-on that have been plaguing Widow's Bay. All recreation areas will be closed until further notice, and that includes putting a total damper on the town's upcoming fireworks event. Tom brings his son to the office and keeps him there, under Ruth's supervision, while he heads out for a half-hour.

Naturally, Tom is worried. He heads to the church for the funeral.
2. Which of these phrases is carved into Reverend Bryce's desk?

Answer: My eye is open

After the funeral, Tom, Patricia, and Wyck search through Reverend Bryce's office for clues as to why he not only committed suicide, but attempted to burn his records. On the Reverend's desk, Tom finds words etched into the wood: 'MY EYE IS OPEN' and opens a handkerchief to find a handful of black mushrooms. Tom checks the desk phone next, sifting through the list of recent calls and finding that Bryce attempted to call him numerous times before he died. Himself, of course, and another number. A lot.

When Tom dials the mystery number and puts it on speakerphone, the trio reaches someone on the other end. Patricia is able to hold a quick conversation with the man on the line, claiming that Reverend Bryce gave over the number. Before long, they're headed to 12 Birch St. to meet them.
3. What's the name of the black mushroom that Reverend Bryce was taking doses of?

Answer: True Sight

Tom, Patricia, and Wyck arrive at 12 Birch St. and knock on the door only to be beckoned inside. None of it seems mysterious as they're asked to sit down, but the man inside, Todd O'Connor, opens his coffee table to show off the mushrooms he's selling. Tom shows him the mushrooms from Reverend Bryce's desk and gets the remark that it's a mean specimen-- one he won't even touch.

Weirder is that Patricia knows Tom; they went to school together. She guesses that he's a drug dealer now, but he prefers to be known as a shaman. It's how he knows that the mushroom is known as 'True Sight', and it's local, native to Widow's Bay. It's 'Lasik for your Third Eye'. It turns out that Reverend Bryce was looking for answers of some sort. Maybe he saw something he didn't want to see.

Wyck asks Todd to make them a tincture of True Sight. They need to know.
4. Who originally volunteered to ingest the magic mushrooms?

Answer: Wyck

Tom's not particularly into the idea of buying hallucinogenic mushrooms to pursue their lead, but Wyck thinks that it needs to be done. They let Todd know that Wyck will take the tincture.

In the meantime, Tom realizes he needs to get back to town hall. His curfew isn't well-received; he needs to impress upon people the severity of the situation. That doesn't happen though since he was accidentally given the mug of mushroom tea that Todd made in a frightening misunderstanding. He heads to the bathroom to try and throw it back up, but it's a bit late for that. He'll be in for a twelve hour trip. Patricia promises she'll make sure Evan is okay.

At the very least, Todd brings Tom into 'the Peace Center', a spare bedroom with a mattress in the middle of the floor, where he can wait out the experience (though there is a massive iguana in the bed when he lays down). Wyck reminds him that he has to take advantage of the situation. It might be the only way to find answers.

Oh yeah, and Todd has to leave-- his girlfriend's cat is missing. He recommends to just hang in, stay there, and to not look into any mirrors.
5. Patricia can't trip-sit Tom as long as she wants to because she's asked to do which of the following instead?

Answer: Head to the police station

Tom can't possibly stay at Todd's place, but he starts to lose track of time quickly. In the blink of an eye he's in Patricia's car having sent Wyck home. He blinks again to find himself in his office with Patricia trying to get a hold of Evan. She goes through his rolodex while he starts to lose grip.

She doesn't get through because Evan is with his friends, out in a field getting high in the back of a car. The group of them, hanging out with a couple of tourist girls, are parked in front of the house belonging to the killer known to locals only as 'The Boogeyman'. The town, at the time, tried to shoot him a bunch but he didn't die, so they buried him in the basement under a pile of concrete instead.

Sheriff Bechir arrives at the town hall office at the same time to ream out Tom over his proposed curfew. It's obviously not the time to deal with it. What it is the time to deal with, however, is bringing Patricia to the station to get her statement for the previous night's events since some of the people who attended her cocktail party want to press charges. She has no choice but to leave Tom in his office.
6. A note from the rectory indicates that the curse that befell Widow's Bay was contained within which of these?

Answer: A piece of jewelery

Wyck, still seeking answers while Tom struggles with his shroom trip, stops in at the museum to speak to Gerrie and get her eyes on a document he nabbed from Reverend Bryce's rectory. It's an interesting page that was spared from the fire-- for the most part-- because it's about the nature of the curse that befell the island many years ago. It points to a small cylinder worn around someone's neck. Wyck may know what that means.

In his office, Tom is left alone with a very concerned Dale to ponder how to prevent the town from overturning the curfew. Having an unnerving vision, Tom turns out the lights in his office... and wakes up in front of a group of angry townspeople.
7. Tom manages to hold his town hall meeting, as it would seem, but he continually blacks out through it. He wakes up, well after the meeting, with which of these in-hand?

Answer: A dry-erase marker

While the people of Widow's Bay complain that Tom won't allow for any give and take for the curfew, especially in light of their sacrifices to make the town the next Martha's Vineyard, he continues to hallucinate sights and sounds. Kurt, who owns the Breakwater Inn, gives an angry speech about tourists being locked away in his awful establishment before the crowd turns to Tom for any rebuttal. But Tom blacks out, missing whatever he told them, but finding that he left a note on the whiteboard saying 'When I turn around everyone close their eyes.' No one else is there anymore (save for the janitor). It's where Patricia finds him.

Evan and his friends, still in the car at the Boogeyman's house after dark, start to experience some odd things. One of the girls claims that she saw something in one of the windows of the building before Evan is dared to go inside. They say that anyone who goes inside doesn't come out.
8. In light of his aberrant behaviour, the others send Tom home, giving him a ride with who of these?

Answer: Rosemary

Patricia and Tom finally reunite with Wyck and Gerrie at the historical society building to discover that the page they located belongs to the journal of Sarah Westcott Warren, the wife of the founder of Widow's Bay, though it was the last entry, torn from the book in the museum. Tom, meanwhile, sits against the wall, drawing with crayons while tethered to a dog leash, seemingly at Patricia's insistence. The others are happy to find the solution themselves though. Wyck even hypothesizes that the cylinder, found on the neck of Richard Warren in his portrait, might be buried with the former founder.

Tom gets anxious when he asks after his son's whereabouts, even going so far as to run out of the museum (with Patricia still holding the leash). But he blacks out again, this time waking up in the back seat of Rosemary's car after she's been asked to drive him home. She has to make one stop though, and by the time Tom wakes up again, this time sprawled in the front seat of Rosemary's vehicle, he finds that they've made it to a gas station. It appears he's already been a menace there too.
9. Does Evan step foot into the Boogeyman's house?

Answer: No

At the Boogeyman's house, Evan slowly trods up the front steps while his friends watch from the car. The moment he places his hand on the handle and starts to open the door, however, a light shines on him and Sheriff Bechir's voice rings out, telling him to step away from the building. Evan asks Bechir not to tell Tom, and he agrees. All Bechir can do is laugh, considering.

By the time Evan's friends drop him off at home, both Tom and Rosemary are back, standing out front in the driveway as they pull in. Tom creepily peers into the windows of the car, frightening the others before motioning for his son to get out of the car and into the house. It starts an argument that the two of them take inside.
10. What happened when Laurin Loftis attempted to leave Widow's Bay?

Answer: She went blind

Evan is ultimately angry that his father ruined the end of his night and believes that it's just one more effort for him to prove to people that he can control him, but Tom is shocked by this assertion. Evan even goes so far as to say that the reason Tom is a bad mayor has nothing to do with him, but Tom, letting this sink in, says that his son might regret that statement someday. Evan has to ask why they never leave the island, but Tom brushes this off with an excuse-- his mother never wanted him to be raised away from Widow's Bay.

Tom goes to the bathroom to throw up as fireworks start to appear in the sky outside. This gives him one final series of visions, this time of his late wife as they hopped onto the ferry off the island late in her pregnancy. For reasons unknown, she spontaneously lost her vision. Evan would be born just fine, but Lauren would never be roused from her catatonia. Tom has lied to Evan ever since, suggesting that she died in childbirth.

Tom prays to God to protect his son; he would do anything. That's when he hears an otherworldly noise in the darkness, responding to his prayer.
