Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Landing in the Hilltop Layer for the first time, you'll obtain the reward for beating Peekabruiser back in the Lagoon Layer. How many Banandium Gems do you collect for this?

Answer: Five

When Peekabruiser is defeated back on Sublayer 102, the reward from completing that battle drops into the sinkhole that forms the passage between the two Layers, and because of this, the Banandium Gem(s) is actually a part of the reward tracked for the latter location. Additionally, the banana result is actually a bunch of five bananas, meaning you effectively gain a full Skill Point from completing this boss battle.

The bunch can be found right at the beginning of the Layer at Surf Hills.
2. Only the one Sublayer in the Hilltop Layer.

Answer: True

The entirety of Hilltop Layer exists on Sublayer 200, so while Lagoon Layer may put out the idea that each area has multiple Sublayers, your visit to this one it pretty well-contained, and it makes sense since the Hilltop here has some lower spaces, but the gimmick involves the upward protrusion.

This all being said, Hilltop Layer still contains several Checkpoints in its Sublayer including Surf Hills, the Undertone Canal, and a Construction Site, amongst others.
3. Hilltop Layer is home to a group of rock-like creatures known by what name?

Answer: The Fractones

Just off the trail from where DK arrives in the Layer is a small village known as Fractone Village, named as such for the rock beings that inhabit the area. DK will be welcomed there with open...erm...arms; the residents are friendly. Here, DK can make use of the typical Style Shop, but also find his first-ever Stuff Shop, Gem Exchange, and Warp Gong, giving him the ability to travel between full Layers by making use of larger Eelevators.

There are many Fractones throughout the game, and you'll meet a handful in your first visit here.
4. A new enemy found in this Layer, the Squeeloid, contains which of these?

Answer: Banandium Coins

These new foes appear to enjoy running into DK if they can, but if he happens to meet their greeting with an attack, they'll let out some of their rewarding treasures. In Hilltop Layer, Squeeloids have a carapace that contains Banandium Coins-- a lot of them-- so destroying them entirely will give a pretty good windfall.

In later Layers, these foes will carry much more dangerous materials, so don't get too used to taking these guys on recklessly.
5. Which is the only Fossil type that can be found in Hilltop Layer?

Answer: Ammonite

Although DK could find a ton of Ammonite up above in the Lagoon Layer, these make their return as the only collectible Fossil type here in the Hilltop Layer. The catch is that the thirty of these hidden around the map are in an alternate colour, so you can't spend them interchangeably between the two Layers. Only the thirty found in Hilltop Layer can be used at the Style Shop in Fractone Village, where four fur colours can be purchased.
6. In this Layer you can encounter your first Architectone. These creatures will create which of the following?

Answer: Getaways

Located at the Trailhead at the far side of Hilltop Layer, the Architectone is a Fractone shaped like a house (with a roof and a chimney), and speaking to him will prompt a payment of 100 Gold for his services. What these helpful allies to is create a unique space for DK, right where they're located, that acts as a rest spot with a bed and a wardrobe.

Here, depending on the Comfy Level of the Getaway, DK can heal a certain amount of health by sleeping off his battle wounds. A number of these can be found throughout the adventure.
7. A VoidCo Terravoider can be found atop which spot in Hilltop Layer?

Answer: Peel Peak

One of the handful of Checkpoints in Hilltop Layer, Peel Peak is a bit tough to scale due to a surprising prevalence of mud and void surfaces, so DK will need to climb the side using Chunk Jumps to launch up higher levels. At the top, DK will also need to Turf Surf across stretches of harmful obstacles to get to the VoidCo Terravoider, sing for it, and destroy it. Doing so will direct the DK and Pauline to their next objective in any case.
8. At the Construction Site, you'll have to make a payment in which currency to get the contractors to clear out the passage?

Answer: Gold

Destroying the Terravoider will lead DK to the Construction Site where the Constructones will express their appreciation that their problems-- chiefly the Void Metal-- have been done away with. The problem is that they note that the demolition of the material blocking the sinkhole to the next Layer may take years to clear out.

In traditional contractor fashion, they note that you can expedite the process by paying 9,999 Gold, a value they'll knock down to 2,999 Gold as a kind gesture for stopping VoidCo.

Naturally, it takes no time at all to clear the route downward at that point.
9. Throughout Hilltop Layer you might spot which of these harmless, green animals going about their business?

Answer: Moles

Although a rare occurrence, these green moles can be found digging their way through little tunnels they create around Hilltop Layer. These creatures aren't enemies nor are they speaking NPCs, but they do lean into the obvious recurring pattern of coming into contact with creatures who navigate the world at large by sifting through the subterranean Layers.

It appears that while their bodies are like that of regular moles, their claws are made out of green gemstones.
10. One of the Challenge Courses for Hilltop Layer is called Nostalgia Country. What can you find there?

Answer: DK's Treehouse

Hilltop Layer Challenge Course 4, found at the bottom of the sinkhole at the Construction Site, is where DK can enjoy a little bit of 2D side-scrolling action, taking to an area that looks remarkably similar to early "Donkey Kong Country" levels. In fact, if you happen to Chunk Jump up over the entry portal, you'll be able to climb the cliff wall and emerge into a replica of DK's jungle treehouse to find a waiting Banandium Gem (reachable by jumping on a tire in the floor, naturally).
