Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If somebody were to describe 'Luxor 2' to you, which genre would fit with the accurate description of the gameplay?

Answer: Puzzle shooter

The core gameplay of 'Luxor 2' involves firing colored spheres at segments of three or more of the same-colored spheres. The spheres spawn continually until a set number of colors have been matched or the spheres reach the pyramid base of the player resulting in a life being lost and having to restart the stage.

The stages start out simple with only four different colors to match and quickly ramp up in difficulty as the levels progress with more colors being added (up to nine on higher difficulties). Each stage has different winding paths the spheres travel along adding another element of difficulty. The player can create combos or 'chain reactions' if eliminating spheres results in adjacent spheres. If these form a segment of three or more of the same color that match, they'll be awarded an additional score multiplier.
2. 'Luxor 2' features how many distinct game modes?

Answer: Four

The modes are Adventure Mode (serves as the story mode), Survival Mode, Practice Mode and Pharaoh's Challenge, also known as Challenge of Horus Mode. Adventure Mode has three difficulties: easy, normal and expert. Survival Mode involves lasting as long as you can with infinite spawns of colored balls and incremental increase in number of colors and speed of the spheres. Practice Mode allows you to select any unlocked stage at any one of the three difficulties in Adventure Mode. Challenge of Horus is an ultra-hard difficulty mode unlocked through gameplay.
3. 'Luxor 2' is the second instalment in the 'Luxor' series.

Answer: False

I apologize for the trickery but don't blame me, blame the publisher! 'Luxor 2' is actually the third standalone game in the 'Luxor' franchise. 'Luxor: Amun Rising' is the sequel to 'Luxor' and was released in 2005.

The game draws heavy influence from Egyptian culture set in mythological Egypt featuring gorgeous backdrops such as pyramids and stages named after Egyptian gods or symbols. The soundtrack even has Egyptian tones to it to accompany you while you destroy those relentless colored spheres. Luxor of course refers to the ancient civilization of Thebes which was the capital of Upper Egypt during the 16th and 11th century BC. Today Luxor is a modern city on the ruins of Thebes and is a popular tourist destination.
4. The player controls a moving platform used to fire the spheres and it depicts a winged creature. What is this winged creature that shoots out the projectiles?

Answer: scarab

The platform located at the bottom of the screen moves in a left to right or right to left fashion depending on the player input with the controller. A winged scarab beetle is the player's sphere shooting apparatus against the colored orbs. With every shot, the player can cycle between two colors to decide which color to launch, the current color sphere loaded into the scarab or the next one queued.
5. Which of these is not a power up available to the player?

Answer: Freeze

Thirteen power ups are available in the game. Three or more explosions or chain reactions will result in the spawning of a power up but not always. The effects of the power up are not activated until they are 'caught' or collected by the player's scarab platform.
6. 'Luxor 2' has how many levels not including bonus levels across its fourteen stages of Adventure Mode?

Answer: 88

There are a whopping 88 levels across all stages in 'Luxor 2' and it takes approximately 15-20 hours to clear the Adventure Mode on the normal difficulty setting. The levels are constructed on twenty-five unique maps which means there is repetition of earlier levels at higher stages with additional colors being added being the sole difference.

There are four levels in the first stage, five in the second, and six in the third. The order of levels repeats after every third stage; however, one stage is added in this repetition, along with an extra color.

At the end of each stage there is a bonus level except for the final stage.
7. What feat unlocks the ultra-hard Pharaoh's Challenge, also known as Challenge of Horus Mode?

Answer: Completing Adventure Mode on Expert

This mode consists of all twenty-five unique levels at a much harder difficulty. What makes this mode so fierce, is not only are there nine different colors to clear but the orbs travel at a much faster rate of speed and if you lose all your lives, it is game over. You can't continue on the last stage you were on unlike the other difficulties.

This mode will test the reflexes of the most experienced players!
8. The player is rewarded with a cutscene depicting the demise of which Egyptian God after completing the 'Challenge of Horus'?

Answer: Set

The fourteenth or final stage is appropriately titled 'Temple of Set'. This level is 14-5, or the fifth level of the fourteenth stage and is the penultimate stage in Adventure Mode. The design of this level is appropriate for a final level with a lava filled temple floor and two separate paths which both spawn lines of multicolored spheres to clear, featuring a menacing statue of Set at the center of the level. Set is the Egyptian deity of storms, deserts, disorder and violence.
9. Earning the highest play rank which is cumulative across all playthroughs of Story Mode will award the player with which title?

Answer: Pharaoh of the Two Lands

This prestige is an absolute grindfest which requires a whopping 280 million points. This is also the name of the Xbox 360 achievement for this feat which is notorious for being a bane for many achievement hunters, with estimates of 50-200 hours of gameplay needed to accumulate this point total. The player is awarded with a paltry 20 Gamerscore for unlocking this achievement.
10. An extra life is awarded for collecting thirty of what shiny object?

Answer: gold coins

These gold coins depict ankhs on their face. Each coin collected has a fixed-point value of 250 across all stages. The further away the last cleared path of orbs are from your base, the more coins are rewarded at the end of the level. The player can also collect jewels and rings at the end of each level and there are a fixed number of two jewels and one ring on each level with escalating point values at higher stages. Additional extra lives at the completion of the story mode are converted to points as well.
