Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where does this boss fight take place?

Answer: Doors of Pharros

This fight is completely and utterly optional to the point where the player can straight up explore the entirety of Doors of Pharros and leave without ever fighting Royal Rat Authority. That said, it does serve very mild covenant importance, so it may be useful to players seeking to progress their standing within the Rat King covenant.
2. The actual boss itself does not immediately arrive when the player enters the boss room. Instead, the player is first greeted by four enemies who, frankly, pose more of a threat than the boss itself. What enemy type is this?

Answer: Dog Rats

Four Dog Rats will quickly converge on the player before the true fight begins. These rats are almost always the biggest threat of the entire fight, because they are fast and can afflict the player with Toxic. Ten seconds after the player begins fighting the Dog Rats, the Royal Rat Authority arrives.

In this time, it is all too easy to be afflicted with Toxic and overwhelmed as the boss itself appears. If the player can clear the Dog Rats without being Toxiced, the boss itself is significantly easier to defeat.
3. Interestingly, because of how this boss fight carries on, the player may find themselves intentionally departing the room before killing the boss, just to go in and rinse and repeat. The four enemies preceding this boss respawn infinitely, and can drop one very useful piece of loot. What can they drop?

Answer: Pharros Lockstone

Other than through farming these four enemies, the Pharros Lockstone has a finite availability to the player. These four enemies will never stop respawning as long as the boss they're tied to hasn't been slain yet. Pharros Lockstones can interact with many, many different structures inside the Doors of Pharros. So, a player looking to explore the entire area may wish to stop and farm the Dog Rats without actually killing the boss they're tied to.
4. Is there an NPC summon available to help the player with this boss?

Answer: No

Like the other boss tied to the Rat King Covenant, Royal Rat Authority presides over an area that is largely PvP oriented. It is quite common for players going through the Doors of Pharros to end up involved in PvP combat with a Rat King Covenant player. As such, there are no NPC summons in this area, and the player cannot summon a friend to help them either.
5. What is the Royal Rat Authority weak to?

Answer: Fire

The Fire weakness is only 10%, so while it is noticeable, it isn't too brainless to exploit. As well, Royal Rat Authority's resistances to Dark, Magic and Lightning are an equally meagre 10%, so players could easily use these elements to win the fight too.
6. Uniquely, when getting Royal Rat Authority down to about 20% of its health, it will be able to use a new attack. This attack will involve it vomiting all over the ground in a small area around it. Players may notice that this vomit doesn't actually damage them, and may falsely believe themselves to be safe standing in it. Rather than damage the player, what does this vomit target?

Answer: The player's equipment

This vomit is corrosive acid, so stepping into it will rapidly destroy the player's equipment. If wielding the Santier's Spear and deciding not to equip any armor or any rings for some reason, then and only then would the vomit truly be harmless.
7. It is clear that Great Grey Wolf Sif from "Dark Souls 1" had some influence on this boss fight. Royal Rat Authority shares one thing in common with the iconic wolf, which will be seen once Royal Rat Authority is at very low health. What happens when Royal Rat Authority is at low health?

Answer: It begins to limp and move very slowly

Iconically, the soundtrack for Great Grey Wolf Sif is very somber and slow paced. There is also a lot of lore built up behind Sif, so when it begins to limp and look noticeably wounded, this is meant to invoke feelings of sadness and sympathy in the player, as they are forced to put the big dog down.

None of this is replicated in even the tiniest way in this fight, not even the somber soundtrack. Players may spot the giant rat limping and feel emboldened, as they will soon be able to kill it and put an end to a boss fight most players find to be quite annoying. It certainly doesn't have anywhere near the same emotional impact as Great Grey Wolf Sif.
8. Exclusively, this is the one boss in the whole entire game whose defeat actually impacts Sweet Shalquoir's shop. One new piece of equipment will be added to the Majula cat's wares. Which piece is it?

Answer: Flying Feline Boots

Unlike most leggings, the Flying Feline Boots come with some utility. They reduce fall damage taken by a pretty hefty 2/3rds, which eclipses the fall damage reduction granted through the Jester Tights and Sanctum Knight Leggings. It also stacks with the Silvercat Ring. If the player wears both the ring and Flying Feline Boots, which can both be purchased from Sweet Shalquoir, they will render flying damage a virtual non-issue for as long as they keep both equipped.

It is worth noting that the Flying Feline Boots cannot prevent death via a lethal fall. They only reduce fall damage taken, they do not extend the range at which the player is allowed to fall before taking lethal damage.
9. If the player did not previously defeat Royal Rat Vanguard, defeating Royal Rat Authority grants access to a new covenant. What covenant can the player now join?

Answer: Rat King

One of the drops received from defeating Royal Rat Authority is a Rat Tail, an item needed to become eligible to join the Rat King covenant. Rat Tails are needed to progress the Rat King covenant, and can be earned either through defeating other players in Rat King based PvP, or continuously slaying either Royal Rat boss over and over again.

They are also extremely rare drops off of regular Rats, which can be found all over the game.
10. On defeat, the Royal Rat Authority drops the Royal Rat Authority Soul. This Boss Soul grants access to a Pyromancy, but which one?

Answer: Acid Surge

Acid Surge will not deal damage when it hits enemies, instead significantly depreciating the Durability on their equipment. This means it only actually does something in PvP, as PvE enemies cannot have their equipment destroyed, even NPC invaders who should be susceptible to this. This makes it an excellent tool for players who want to invade, primarily those who seek to engage in Rat King based PvP, making it a worthy reward with clear opportunity for immediate use.

Players who are not interested in PvP will get virtually zero use out of this spell, and should just consume the Royal Rat Authority Boss Soul to receive 14,000 souls instead.
