Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A pair of wardrobes in the Wood Side Apartments requires which of these to be opened?

Answer: Golden Apple Handle

The Wood Side Apartments hold some of your earliest 'odd keys' in "Silent Hill 2", and one of these comes in the form of a Golden Apple, a device found on a hand-shaped door handle on an old, wooden wardrobe in Apartment 108. There's a corresponding wardrobe found a floor above in Apartment 208, and placing it into the proper 'hand'-le will allow you to look inside and through a peephole into the adjoining apartment.

It'll also allow you to move the furniture piece, gaining access to the safe puzzle inside Apartment 206.
2. The way out of Blue Creek Apartments involves finding parts of a clock in Apartment 212. How many pieces are effectively used as keys to gain access to the courtyard?

Answer: Three

The Blue Creek Apartments are somehow more dangerous than the Wood Side Apartments next door, but one safe space is Apartment 212, which contains a mysterious clock that also happens to act as a puzzle and a lock for several rooms in the building. To unlock these spots, you need to get the hands of the clock and place them on the proper numbers per cryptic clues provided.

Apartment 307 contains an old radio on which the Hour Hand is the dial, and you need the Valve Wheel in Apartment 304 to claim it. This will open the H-marked door, Apartment 310, which will contain the Minute Hand in its toilet bowl. The Second Hand is available from the M-marked door, Apartment 202, in which James will have to reach into a deep hole in the wall to collect it.
3. The Gate Key found in Jack's Inn has which of these as a keychain?

Answer: A boot

James and Maria will head into Western South Vale after they meet in Rosewater Park, and there they'll aim to pass through the back gate at Jack's Inn, a small motel across the street from the gardens. The problem is that the gate is locked (of course), so they'll need to locate the safe code in Room 107 and use that to unlock the safe in the front office to claim the proper key (at which point Maria will be promptly attacked by a Mannequin, which is unfortunate).

The key, with a distinct green boot keychain, is used the one time to open the route, and then it'll be a mad dash to avoid the encroaching fog.
4. The key in the Nurse's Station in the lobby of Brookhaven Hospital opens the door to which of these?

Answer: The basement

James and Maria will come across the Nurse's Station during their first steps in Brookhaven Hospital since it's located adjacent to the lobby, and inside there'll be a combination lock on a key box on the wall. The duo will guess it's for the second floor, but it's not.

Instead they'll need to find a clue to the combo in the accessible Exam Rooms (based on the pictures hanging in the lobby) and open it to find the basement key. From there they'll be able to fuel up the generator, use that to access one of the building's elevators, and head up from there.
5. In Brookhaven Hospital, James needs a Bent Needle and a coiled Medical Tube to get the Maintenance Key, using them to do which of the following?

Answer: Drain a pool

Brookhaven Hospital is filled with odds and ends, and sometimes you never know what might come in handy until you're faced with the most mundane issues. There's a drain in the first floor Pharmacy room that contains a Maintenance Key, and reaching in isn't possible just with James' hand. Instead, he'll need to find a coiled Medical Tube that can be used at a length, and a Bent Needle, found in the back of a teddy bear (of course), combining them to snag the keys in a more innovative way.

The Maintenance Key is used to drain the water in the facility's pool, granting access to a breakable wall containing one of the three missing patient bracelets.
6. James will find an orbitoclast while searching in the Otherworld version of Brookhaven Hospital. It's referred to, in the game, as the Key of what?

Answer: Bliss

Much of the time spent in the Otherworld version of Brookhaven Hospital will involve unlocking a chained box in the 2F lobby, and one of the pieces of this puzzle will send James upstairs to the third floor to claim a Lapis Eye Key from a dummy. The only way to do this is using two distinct tools, the first being the Instrument of Force (a hammer) to break one of the dummy's arms, and the second, the Key of Bliss, being used to carve away at the dummy's eye, revealing the key inside. The Key of Bliss is in a nearby room, embedded into a hole in the wall.

An orbitoclast is the typical name for the odd, ice pick-like device used in lobotomies.
7. To get into the park on Neely St., James needs to acquire which of these, found next to a payphone elsewhere in South Vale?

Answer: Wrench

Leaving Brookhaven Hospital, James will still be stuck in the Otherworld environment, crossing back through Eastern South Vale in pursuit of Laura with the goal of returning to Rosewater Park. To get there, however, he needs to cross back through many of the buildings that he'd already visited and likely cleared of foes (and some new, previously inaccessible spots).

It will bring him to a ringing payphone and, next to that, he'll find a Wrench he can use to open the bolts locking the gate to the park on Neely St., which he'd never visited before. On the other side of this is a tunnel back to Western South Vale, and that'll get him where he needs to be next.
8. How many weights are used to operate the scales in Toluca Prison?

Answer: Six

There are slots enough for six different-sized weights in front of the scale in the Toluca Prison Yard, but you'll start with only one weight and find four more in your travels around the building. The Heaviest Weight is in the chapel, there's a Medium Weight in the electric chair in the Serpent Wing, there's another in the wall of the shower room on the second floor, a smaller one in the warden's office, and a sixth and final one in the basement cells.

Using the weights properly will open the doors, one at a time, to the other wards of the prison before all six are collected for a great escape. At this point, there's no returning to the prison again; you can only plod onwards, deeper. You'll use the Execution Lever provided for one last puzzle.
9. In the rotten part of the Labyrinth, the way forward is reliant on finding pieces to construct what item?

Answer: Lighter

Once you can manage the revolving cube in the middle of the Labyrinth, you can send James into a 'rotten' side to the maze (as opposed to the desolate side and the ruined side). Here, you'll need to navigate a maze occupied by Mandarins hanging below, all to find your way to different 'safe' pockets containing bits and pieces that you can combine to make a working Lighter. You'll have to find Lighter Gas in an old fridge, a box of Lighter Wicks in a sketchy hole in a wall, and a Broken Lighter casing in a bathtub. Combining all three will allow you to burn away the rope securing a cage to the ceiling in the lobby room and allow you to drop back in front of the revolving cube to take another route.
10. The Ornamental Key is used to unlock which of these puzzles in Lakeview Hotel?

Answer: Music Box

Behind the lobby desk in Lakeview Hotel, where you'll find a letter for James and a Save Point, you'll also locate a single set of keys left behind on the hooks, and on the ring there'll be a key to Room 312-- inaccessible for now-- and an Ornamental Key that's used to open the music box in the middle of the lobby, right next to your location. You can absolutely open it off the jump, but operating the music box is a lot trickier since it requires pieces you have to search the building for.
