Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Rapture

Answer: Bioshock

'Bioshock' is a first-person shooter game. It's set in 1960 in the underwater dystopian city of Rapture. Built by business magnate Andrew Ryan as a haven for society's elite, Rapture fell into chaos after the discovery of ADAM, a genetic material that grants superhuman powers.

Players explore the crumbling Art Deco city whilst fighting off drug-addicted Splicers and deciding the fate of Little Sisters. Rapture became one of gaming's most recognised locations.
2. Tallon IV

Answer: Metroid Prime

'Metroid Prime' is a first-person action-adventure game which features bounty hunter Samus Aran. The game takes place on Tallon IV, an abandoned planet that was once inhabited by the Chozo civilisation. The planet became corrupted by radioactive Phazon following a meteor impact.

Players explore various regions, including the Chozo Ruins, Magmoor Caverns, and Phendrana Drifts, while uncovering the planet's tragic history.
3. Hyrule

Answer: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

'The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time' is set in the kingdom of Hyrule, one of gaming's best-known fantasy settings. Players control Link as he travels between childhood and adulthood to stop the evil Ganondorf.

Hyrule has diverse locations including Hyrule Field, Death Mountain, Lake Hylia, and the Lost Woods. The kingdom contains multiple towns and dungeons which are spread across a varied landscape.
4. The Glade of Dreams

Answer: Rayman

'Rayman' is a platformer game. Its setting is The Glade of Dreams, which is a whimsical fantasy world created by the Bubble Dreamer. This colourful realm contains floating islands, magical forests, and surreal landscapes.

The Glade faces constant threats from villains like Mr Dark and the Magician who want to corrupt or conquer it. Each game explores different regions of this world. The setting's creativity and visual design helped Rayman become a well-loved character.
5. Green Hill Zone

Answer: Sonic the Hedgehog

Green Hill Zone is the first level of the original 'Sonic the Hedgehog' game and it became the series' most recognisable location. It's a tropical paradise that features loop-de-loops, springs, palm trees, and checkered soil patterns.

The zone represents South Island before Dr Robotnik's invasion and industrialisation. Its upbeat music and bright visuals set the style for all 'Sonic' games. Green Hill Zone keeps appearing in later games because fans love it.
6. Midgar

Answer: Final Fantasy VII

'Final Fantasy VII' begins in Midgar, which is a huge dystopian city divided between the wealthy upper plate and impoverished slums below. The city is powered by Mako energy extracted by the Shinra Electric Power Company, which is slowly killing the planet.

Players join the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE in attacking Shinra's Mako reactors. Midgar's cyberpunk atmosphere and environmental themes made it one of gaming's most famous cities. The city only appears in the first portion of the game, but it left a lasting impression.
7. The Overworld

Answer: Minecraft

The Overworld is the primary dimension of 'Minecraft'. Players spawn and spend most of their time here. It's a randomly generated world that contains different biomes including forests, deserts, mountains, and oceans.

Players gather resources, build structures, and explore caves whilst avoiding hostile mobs that spawn at night. The Overworld connects to two other dimensions, the Nether and the End. Its endless possibilities for creativity made it one of the best-selling games ever.
8. Aperture Science Laboratories

Answer: Portal

'Portal' takes place in the Aperture Science Enrichment Centre. This is an abandoned research facility run by the artificial intelligence GLaDOS. Players use a portal gun to solve physics-based puzzles whilst GLaDOS provides darkly humorous commentary.

The sterile test chambers contrast with the decaying infrastructure behind the walls. The facility's history is gradually revealed through environmental storytelling. Aperture Science's unique setting and atmosphere made the game a cult classic.
9. Traverse Town

Answer: Kingdom Hearts

Traverse Town is the main hub in the original 'Kingdom Hearts' game. It's a peaceful town that exists between worlds and provides refuge for those whose homes were destroyed by the Heartless.

The town features multiple districts with shops, side quests, and NPCs from various 'Final Fantasy' games. Players return to Traverse Town throughout the adventure to regroup and prepare for new worlds. Its role as a safe haven made it popular with players.
10. Pandora

Answer: Borderlands

The setting for 'Borderlands' is Pandora. This is a dangerous frontier planet filled with bandits, hostile wildlife, and ancient alien technology. It's colonised by humans seeking fortune. Pandora became a lawless wasteland after corporations abandoned it.

The planet has deserts, wastelands, and underground facilities. The game uses a distinctive cel-shaded art style. Players hunt for legendary Vaults rumoured to contain alien treasures. Its Wild West atmosphere in a sci-fi setting made it a unique setting for players.
