Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the first rhythm guitarist to play with Aerosmith?

Answer: Ray Tabano

Ray Tabano, nicknamed 'Crazy Raymond', was a founding member of Aerosmith and a childhood friend of Steven Tyler. Both grew up in Yonkers, New York. He played rhythm guitar in the band's original 1970 lineup but was replaced by Brad Whitford in 1971.

Despite his departure, Ray remained closely involved with the band throughout the 1970s, managing their office and warehouse known as 'The Wherehouse', running the fan club and designing the original winged 'A' logo. He was finally let go by the band's management in 1979.
2. Which hip hop group collaborated with Aerosmith on a 1986 remake of 'Walk This Way'?

Answer: Run-DMC

'Walk This Way' was originally released in 1975 from Aerosmith's 'Toys in the Attic'. album. In 1986, producer Rick Rubin persuaded a reluctant Run-DMC to remake the song with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. Run-DMC initially dismissed the original lyrics as 'hillbilly gibberish' and nearly refused to record them.

The single reached number eight on the UK Singles Chart and number four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It became one of the first rap songs to receive a lot of plays on MTV. It rescued Aerosmith's flagging career and helped break hip-hop into the mainstream simultaneously.
3. What does Aerosmith's Steven Tyler's tattoo on his left arm say?

Answer: Ma' kin

'Mama Kin' is one of the first songs Steven Tyler wrote for Aerosmith's self-titled debut album in 1973. He had so much confidence in it that he got it tattooed on his left bicep before the album was even released.

The tattoo reads 'Ma' Kin' rather than the full title because, according to both Tyler and Joe Perry, his arm was too thin to fit all the letters. Tattooing was actually illegal in Massachusetts at the time, so they had to drive to a parlour in Providence, Rhode Island to get it done.
4. For which film was Aerosmith's 'I Don't Want to Miss a Thing' originally recorded?

Answer: Armageddon

'I Don't Want to Miss a Thing' was written by Diane Warren specifically for the 1998 disaster film 'Armageddon', in which Steven Tyler's daughter Liv Tyler starred. It became Aerosmith's first U.S. number one single despite the band having been together for nearly 30 years. 'Deep Impact' is a plausible wrong answer as it was another asteroid disaster film released the same year.

Released in August 1998, it reached number four on the UK Singles Chart and went straight to number one on the U.S Billboard Hot 100, becoming Aerosmith's first and only number one there. Despite its massive commercial success, Joe Perry was reportedly uneasy about recording a song they hadn't written themselves.
5. What song did Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry write together for the first time?

Answer: Movin' Out

'Movin' Out' was the first song that Steven Tyler and Joe Perry ever wrote together. It was composed in early 1971 while sitting on a waterbed in the band's apartment at 1325 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. Steven later recalled the moment vividly, saying he leapt up and announced it was their 'firstborn', the first real Aerosmith song.

It appeared on the band's 1973 self-titled debut album.
6. What is the real name of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler?

Answer: Steven Victor Tallarico

Steven Tyler was born Steven Victor Tallarico on March 26, 1948, in Manhattan, New York City. He adopted the stage name Tyler early in his career. It's a name he borrowed from Aerosmith's original drummer Joey Kramer, who had a friend called Steven Tyler.

Despite decades of global fame under his stage name, Steven didn't legally change his name until much later in life. His father Victor Tallarico was a classical pianist who gave him his first musical foundation, though his son would take things in a much louder direction.
7. 'They talk to me and seem to hypnotize'. These are lyrics from which Aerosmith song?

Answer: Deuces Are Wild

'Deuces Are Wild' was written by Steven Tyler and professional songwriter Jim Vallance, who originally composed the music in 1988. It was recorded during the 'Pump' sessions in 1989 but was left off the album.

The song finally got a release in late 1993 when it appeared on the novelty compilation 'The Beavis and Butt-Head Experience', before being included on the 1994 greatest hits album 'Big Ones'. Despite its unusual route to release it topped the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for four weeks in 1994, which proved the band right to have hung onto it.
8. Aerosmith did a cover of what song by the Doors?

Answer: Love Me Two Times

Aerosmith recorded their cover of 'Love Me Two Times' by The Doors for the soundtrack of the 1990 film 'Air America'. They also performed it at their 'MTV Unplugged' appearance that same year, where Steven Tyler dedicated the song to Jim Morrison.

The original was released by The Doors in 1967 as the second single from their 'Strange Days' album. It reached number 25 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Aerosmith have long said they were influenced by The Doors. Also, Stevens's admiration for Jim, both as a vocalist and a showman, is well documented throughout his career.
9. The lyrics 'Don't that sun look good goin' down You almost lost your love girl' are from which Aerosmith song?

Answer: Milk Cow Blues

'Milk Cow Blues' is an old blues song. It was originally written and recorded by Kokomo Arnold in 1934. Aerosmith recorded their version for the 1977 album 'Draw the Line', giving it their usual hard‑rock edge while still keeping the song's blues feel.

The band often said that American blues was the foundation of their sound, and their habit of covering classic blues tracks showed up throughout their career.
10. What nickname was given to Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry due to their legendary drug and alcohol abuse?

Answer: The Toxic Twins

Steven Tyler and Joe Perry earned the nickname 'Toxic Twins' in the mid-1970s because of their notorious and very public drug and alcohol abuse both on and off stage. The press picked up the term, which was coined by Steven himself, when their heroin and cocaine habits spiralled out of control. They even hired a roadie whose sole job was to supply them with cocaine during live performances.

The excess eventually caught up with them when Perry quit the band in 1979 following a backstage fight. Both eventually got sober and despite the dark origins of the nickname, they have co-written over 85 songs together and were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2013.
