Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What exactly is Vorkuta?

Answer: A town

Incidentally, Vorkuta exists in real life. In the modern world, it does not function at all as it does in the game, but in real life, Vorkuta was established as a Gulag, a forced labor camp, in the 1930s. A rebellion held at Vorkuta in 1953 is largely thought to have been the inspiration for how Vorkuta plays out in this video game.

In the real world, Vorkuta started as the aforementioned Gulag, and eventually manifested into a coal-mining town. In the real world, there are no roads to Vorkuta and it is only accessible via train or some form of flight.
2. What is the main objective of this mission?

Answer: Escape

Simply put, this is a massive prison escape-type mission. It takes place after the events in Operation 40, where Mason was eventually taken prisoner by the Russians. He must work together with other prisoners to break free of Vorkuta.
3. Most of the player's allies are generic, indistinguishable and nameless. There are two named allies who play a key role in this mission. What is the name of one of them?

Answer: Viktor Reznov

Reznov plays the part of the ringleader, orchestrating and leading the prisoners through the various steps required for a successful prison break. Reznov would go on to have a massive impact on the entirety of the campaign in general.

The other named ally is Sergei Kozin, of whom Reznov labels the "Monster of Magadan".
4. How many "steps" to freedom does the revolution of this mission follow?

Answer: Eight

The steps are as follows:

1. Secure the keys
2. Ascend from darkness
3. Rain fire
4. Unleash the horde
5. Skewer the winged beast
6. Wield a fist of iron
7. Raise Hell
8. Freedom

Players playing this game on launch day couldn't have known, but these eight steps to freedom would go on to become embedded into "Call of Duty" lore as the most iconic mission steps ever. Famously, these are also emulated in the Origins map of "Black Ops 2", one game and two years after Vorkuta came out. They are the Easter Egg Main Quest steps of that map.
5. As Mason and the prisoners are being transported through the prison, they have an idle moment. During this moment, one of the prisoners asks if Mason can be trusted, as he is the only American amongst a group of Russians. In the end, do the prisoners trust Mason?

Answer: Yes

In response to the question of if Mason can be trusted, Reznov definitively responds "with my life". Reznov clarifies that, despite the difference in nationality, Mason is just like himself and the other prisoners: abandoned by his country and left to rot in Vorkuta. This connection and Reznov's reassurance are more than enough to convince the prisoners.
6. What is the first gun the player gains access to in this mission?

Answer: Makarov

The player will eventually get all of these weapons, but at the very start, being in a prison, they begin unarmed. It isn't after meeting Sergei where the player gets their first firearm, a Makarov picked up off of a dead Spetsnaz guard.
7. Being a prison break, the player does not have access to too many weapons. How many different guns can be obtained in this mission?

Answer: Four

The Makarov, AK47, KS-23 and M62A1 (labeled in game as 'Death Machine') are the only guns the player can wield in this mission. The AK47 and KS-23 can be found basically everywhere, while the Makarov is only dropped by security guards and one Spetsnaz soldier during a cutscene, not other actual Spetsnaz.

However, if the player damages anyone in a way that reduces them to 5% of their health or less, they will drop to the ground, bleeding out, and pull out a Makarov that would be picked up on their death.
8. This mission features two sides objectives the player can achieve. One of them is 'Vehicular Slaughter'. How does the player get this one?

Answer: Destroy all vehicles in the mission

It is as simple conceptually as it sounds: the player must blow up every single vehicle found in the level. This is not particularly challenging to do either, as they can simply fire an AK47 or throw a grenade at vehicles they pass by. The only instance this gets tricky is right after engaging the Spetsnaz following the initial prison break.

Here, a helicopter appears that is impervious to bullet damage. The player must carefully time and aim a grenade throw into the chopper. They must be careful not to overshoot, or the grenade could land in the chopper and then simply roll out of it.
9. Intel can be found, three pieces of it, in this mission. The second document is of particular narrative interest, as it describes a psychological overview of Alex Mason. It suggests that the US believes there is a "high chance" he has been what?

Answer: Compromised

The intel confirms that Mason has been in the hands of KGB interrogators, a group famous for their swift brutality. It clarifies that, while Mason himself is loyal and resolute, he most likely unwillingly, possibly even unknowingly, became mentally compromised at the hands of these interrogators.

This intel sure was a heck of a foreshadowing!
10. Do all prisoners manage to escape?

Answer: No

Never mind the named prisoners, there are a countless amount of nameless ones that get violently gunned down by enemy Spetsnaz while the player themselves takes the field.

However, in terms of notable characters, only Mason is able to escape Vorkuta. Reznov is run down by Spetsnaz mere inches before escaping to safety. Sergei ends up being killed by guards while the player is trying to unlock a gate he is actively using his brute strength to hold open.

Named or unnamed, Mason is the only person who is confirmed to have escaped Vorkuta. Everyone else literally died trying.
