Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

The Greek word "Vronti" means a loud and vibrating sound. In Ancient Greek, the word was rendered as "Bromos" and the adjective "Bromios" could be used to designate both Zeus, King of the Greek Gods, and Dionysus, the god of wine.

The Spanish word "Trueno" derives from the Latin word "Tonitruum", which means "thunder". The Latin adjective Tonans, deriving from the same word, was used an an epithet of Jupiter, as in Seneca's "Hercules Furens", where Juno calls herself "Soror Tonantis", id est "Sister of the Thunderer". The French "Tonnerre" shares the same origins, as well as the Portuguese "Trovao".

The German word "Donner", which was also the continental German name for the thunder god Thor, derives from a Germanic root meaning "sound/rumble". The English word "thunder", which in Old English was rendered as "thunor", also stems from the same root. The same derivation can be observed in the Danish "Torden" and the Dutch "Donder".

The Finnish word "Ukkonen" is cognate with the name of the Finnish thunder god Ukko, meaning literally "little Ukko", since the thunder was regarded as a manifestation of the god, whose name means "old man" or "grandfather".

The Hungarian word "Mennydorges" is created by joining the word "Menny", which denotes the sky, to the word "dorges", which means "rumbling" and in turn steams from the onomatopetic verb "dorog".

The Ukrainian word "Hrim" derives from a reconstructed root "ghrem-", meaning "roar". The verb "hrymaty", which means "to scold, to rebuke harshly", also derives from this root.

The other five words mean "rainbow". "Acroiris" is Spanish, "Vikerkaar" is Estonian, "Ostadar" is Basque, "Duga" is Croatian and "Mavrica" is Slovenian.
