1. Charles Lindbergh

In 1927, Time Magazine named Charles Lindbergh the Man of the Year after he became the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. His plane "The Spirit of St. Louis" left New York and arrived safely in Paris, France.
2. Wallis Simpson

The Time Magazine winner of Woman of the Year in 1935 was Wallis Simpson. In 1934, Edward the Prince of Wales, heir to the British throne, started a relationship with Ms. Simpson, who at the time was still married and had also been divorced once already.

This caused a considerable scandal, but matters reached crisis point in 1936, when King George V died and Edward became king. At the time it was not acceptable for a reigning British monarch to marry a divorcee, and Edward was told he had to chose between Wallis and the throne.

He chose her.
3. George C. Marshall

During World War II, the United States Army Chief of Staff Officer, George Marshall, was instrumental in coordinating the U.S. actions during the war. Time Magazine named George Marshall their Man of the Year in 1943.
4. Charles de Gaulle

The 1958 Time Magazine Man of the Year was Charles De Gaulle. Following the fall of the French Fourth Republic in 1958, Charles De Gaulle (who had led the Free French forces during WW2) was elected President of France for the new Fifth Republic. In future years, a prominent airport in Paris was named after De Gaulle.
5. Pope John XXIII

During 1962, the Cuban Missile Crisis was escalating between the United States and the USSR. Pope John XXIII of the Roman Catholic Church volunteered to mediate the conflict. He served as Pope from 1958 to 1963. In 1962. In addition, he initiated the Second Vatican Council in 1962 to modernize the church.
6. Ruhollah Khomeini

Time Magazine did not always award their award to someone who was known as a world hero. In 1979, the Islamic Republic named Ruhollah Khomeini their first leader after he led the Islamic Revolution. Khomeini ruled over an oppressive regime in Iran, and gained international headlines after 52 American Embassy staff were held hostage for over a year in Iran.
7. Peter Ueberroth

Major League Baseball commissioner, Peter Ueberroth, was chosen the Time Magazine Man of the Year in 1984, for his work as the chief organiser of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. The Olympic Games in 1984 were controversial as the Soviet Union boycotted the sporting event, after the USA had boycotted the 1980 Moscow event in protest at the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan.
8. Jeff Bezos

In 1999, Jeff Bezos was the first recipient of the Person of the Year award from Time Magazine. Previously it had been the Man or Woman of the Year. Bezos was the founder and CEO of Amazon.com. During 1999, the dot-com companies were booming and Amazon.com became one of the worldwide leaders.
9. Rudy Giuliani

On September 11, 2001, New York City had their Twin Towers destroyed by a terrorist attack. New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani campaigned the rescue mission and rallied the country to support the U.S. citizens. He was chosen by Time as a symbol of America's response to the attacks.
10. Donald Trump

In 2016, Time Magazine named businessman turned United States President, Donald J. Trump, as their Person of the Year. He was the 90th winner of the Time Magazine award. Trump's selection was acknowledged by Time Magazine for his no-holds bar approach to his political campaign and challenging the norm of U.S. politics.
