Answer: Volvo

Volvo is a multinational company that is headquartered in Sweden. Though the car division was sold to the Ford Motor Company in 2000 who then on-sold it to the Chinese motor manufacturer Geely Automobile, the car, itself, still remains as an icon of the country.
2. Palindromes The taxi driver had his car radio on, which was playing a song with the palindromic title "S.O.S". He proudly boasted that this song was a hit for a Swedish band whose name is also a palindrome. Can you name that band?

Answer: ABBA

It is difficult to write something that is either new or interesting about a band that is so well known. They formed in 1972 and were active for approximately ten years. During that time they created so many popular songs that have led to the sale of a staggering 380 million albums.
3. Fractured Words We said to the taxi driver that we were starving hungry and that our first priority was food, could he recommend a place to us. He said that in the city his cousin owned a place that had a fine something or other. His accent was so thick that it sounded like SMOG GUESS BORED Can you understand what he was trying to say?

Answer: Smorgasbord

The smorgasbord is an open table with a variety of cold dishes on hand from which guests may help themselves. It is a Swedish creation that came to prominence internationally at the 1939 World's Fair that was held in New York.
4. Rebuses "Sounds good" we said to the taxi driver. "O.K." he said "I will take you to Sweden's capital city, do you know what it is? I will give you a clue, find an alternate word for the two words below and add them together to understand how it sounds". Inventory + Dwelling

Answer: Stockholm

Inventory = Stock
Dwelling = Home

Stockhome sounds like Stockholm

More than 20% of Sweden's population lives in Stockholm and its metropolitan area. It truly represents the heart of the country. It is the home of their government, the Rikstag, and the residences of both their monarch and their Prime Minister.
5. Logic Puzzle Driving toward Sweden's capital the taxi driver was happy to point out some of Sweden's top sites and businesses. Answer: IKEA

"Ha! I build furniture l(IKE A) Swedish bus driver".

IKEA is one of the world's largest furniture retailers and its founder, Ingvar Kamprad, one of its richest people. Despite being founded in Sweden and being one of the country's icons, the company is registered in The Netherlands.
7. Words In Common Finally we arrived at the restaurant belonging to the taxi driver's cousin but before we could enter we had to solve a little brain teaser. Can you identify the word that either precedes or follows the following three words? Pastry Iron Sous

Answer: Chef

OK, the muppet character, the Swedish Chef is not actually Swedish but he is purportedly based on real life Swedish chef Lars Backman and during the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, held in Malmo, Sweden, the Swedes embraced him and used him on a mural during one of the interval acts.

A pastry chef is skilled in the art of making of pastries (of course), desserts, breads and a range of other baked goods. "Iron Chef" is a Japanese television show produced by Fuji Television and a sous chef is the second in charge of a kitchen, ranking just below the head chef.
8. In Other Words After a fine feast we decided to catch a Swedish movie. There was a cinema next door that featured a 2009 film starring, what looked like, Sweden's golden girl Noomi Rapace. We couldn't decipher the title so we asked a passerby. We struggled with his translation for a while, see if you have more joy? "The young lass who bears an inked image of a mythical guardian that breathes fire"

Answer: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

The film, which is based on a story by Stieg Larsson, centres on investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist who is commissioned by a wealthy patriarch to track down his niece who has been missing for 36 years. On the journey he is assisted by a brilliant young computer hacker named Lisbeth Salander played by Rapace.
9. Anagrams My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie (thank Heavens for subtitles) and on the way out we argued as to who represented a greater icon of Sweden's film industry. My partner declared it was Noomi Rapace and, like a little "Ninotchka", I blurted out GATOR BARGE Can you rearrange those letters to reveal the name of the actress, which is what I really meant to say?

Answer: Greta Garbo

Garbo was such a star in the silent era of movies that when she did the film "Anna Christie" in 1930 the publicity blurb for the movie was "Garbo talks". Her most famous opening line in this film was "Gimme a whiskey, ginger ale on the side, and don't be stingy, baby". She received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film and would garner a further two similar nominations for "Romance" (1930) and "Ninotchka" (1939).
10. Fractured Words We broke off our discussion on Swedish actresses because we spied our taxi driver. Suddenly I felt we were being stalked. He was all excited and wanted us to see Villa Villekulla but with his excitement and his accent all I could make out was "home", "children's character" and "Astrid Lindgren". Oh, and this bit was apparently important but I couldn't make it out. Can you please help us understand what it means? PEEP PEA LORE HONG STOW KEEN

Answer: Pippi Longstocking

Pippi Longstocking, as you may have gathered from the clues, is a children's character derived from the fertile imagination of Astrid Lindgren and she lives at Villa Villekulla, which is situated in the town of Vibble in Sweden. Pippi has had an enormous impact globally in print, on television and film. It is said that author Stieg Larsson modelled his character Lisbeth Salander on a grown up version of Pippi.
