My first quiz! I thought I'd start with something I love: Disney! I hope I've managed to create a fairly good mix of easier and more complex questions. Have fun :)

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these following Disney heroines spent virtually her entire movie with her shoes on? (i.e was not barefoot for any susbtantial amount of time)

Answer: Cinderella

Cinderella is the only one who spends very little time barefoot. Pocahontas and Esmeralda virtually never wear shoes and Sleeping Beauty also spends a surprisingly prolonged amount of time without shoes on and is barefoot the whole time she is in the Fairy Godmothers' cottage and when she meets the Prince in the forest. (And she certainly has the tiniest, daintiest feet I've ever seen!) However, Cinderella spends only a short stint shoeless when she is trying on the glass slipper at the end of the movie, otherwise she is shod in either her shabby brown flats or her glamorous glass slippers.
2. Which of these following heroines best fits this description: 'Dark complexion, two gold earrings, favours outfits which show off her tiny midriff and has long black hair'?

Answer: Jasmine

Jasmine, of course! Esmeralda is a close second: she is tanned and has long black hair, however she only has one earring and her midriff (though tiny) is hidden throughout. Snow White has black hair...but that's where the similarities end. She has very pale skin and bare tummies were far too scandalous for this 1937 flick. I hope no one said Sleeping Beauty, as the fact that her hair is banana yellow should have discounted her immediately!
3. Which of these two Princesses both have three or more costume changes each throughout their movies?

Answer: Cinderella and Ariel

Sleeping Beauty has arguably three different costumes because she has her peasant dress and her ball gown in two different colours, but Pocahontas never changes her outfit. Cinderella has her ball gown, her rags and the dress the mice make for her but Alice has only her blue dress with the apron. Ariel has various costume changes but Wendy stays in her nightdress throughout the movie.

The correct answer is Cinderella and Ariel! Cinderella has THREE different costume changes and Ariel has even more: her mermaid tail, her shipwreck dress, her pink ball gown, her blue peasant dress and her wedding dress! I think that's a record for number of outfits owned by one Disney princess!
4. Which of these two Princesses do we know for a fact both married very young in their movies?

Answer: Sleeping Beauty and Ariel

Sleeping Beauty and Ariel's ages are the only two ages of these, which are mentioned in their movies. Sleeping Beauty's age is mentioned in Maleficent's curse: '... before the sun sets on her 16th birthday, she shall prick her finger, on the spindle of a spinning wheel - AND DIE!' and Ariel indignantly tells her mollycoddling father King Triton: 'I'm sixteen years old - I'm not a child anymore!' I always found it vaguely amusing that Aurora; an apparently fresh-faced sixteen-year-old had the perfect operatic strains of the thirty-year-old Mary Costa. Unlike in the original storyline, Aurora does not sleep for a hundred years, Prince Phillip rescues her much, much earlier so that they could introduce him early in the movie, and I suppose it would be a bit of a long film otherwise.
5. Which of these heroines does NOT wear her hair loose and unbound throughout her movie?

Answer: Wendy

Wendy has her hair tied back in ringlets with a ribbon; the other three all have their hair loose and unbound throughout their movies.
6. Which of these heroines has almost no contact with their nemeses or adversary?

Answer: Sleeping Beauty

Cinderella lives with her nemeses and is even related to them so she has plenty of contact with her nasty antagonists. Jasmine comes into fairly frequent contact with Jafar throughout 'Aladdin' and almost gets married to him, Alice has a lengthy croquet game and court trial with the horrid Queen of Hearts but Aurora, despite the horrible curse placed on her by Maleficent never actually meet her.

The curse is placed on her when she's a baby and after that Phillip takes it upon himself to get rid of Maleficent, Aurora never even speaks to her nemesis!
7. Which passionate heroine says this: 'You mistreat this poor boy the same way you mistreat my people. You speak of justice, yet you are cruel to those most in need of your help!'?

Answer: Esmeralda

The brave Esmeralda, one of my favourite heroines, says this to Frollo when Quasimodo is being tortured and humiliated in front of the crowd, having being crowned the King of Fools. Frollo has a zealous vendetta against Esmeralda's people, the Gypsies but it doesn't stop him from deciding he wants Esmeralda for himself.
8. Which of these Princesses is the only heroine to not have her own solo?

Answer: Jasmine

Jasmine is one of the very few Disney heroines who does not have her own complete solo song. Alice sings 'In a World Of My Own', Cinderella sings 'A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes' and Meg sings 'I Won't Say I'm in Love' (which incidentally is a great song). Jasmine only sings 'A Whole New World' with Aladdin.
9. Which of these Princesses is one of the few Disney girls who doesn't get her man?

Answer: Pocahontas

In arguably one of the saddest endings, Pocahontas and John Smith don't end up together. He goes back to England and she stays with her people. The real Pocahontas did follow John back to England, though she married John Rolfe not John Smith, but she became very ill from all the nasty European diseases that her body could not fight off and died very shortly after arriving, so in a way maybe it was kinder that she didn't go back with John in the movie! We were saved a bit more heartache!
10. Which of these Disney Princesses is based on a real person?

Answer: Pocahontas

Cinderella is a very old fairytale character but it is not believed that she was a real person. She appeared in a grisly retelling of the Cinderella story by the Brother Grimm in which the step-sisters, desperate to win the Prince's favour, cut off their heels and toes to fit into the shoe and when the Prince noticed the blood seeping out of the shoe he predictably becomes suspicious. (I'm not surprised Disney left that out of the movie.) Ariel, or The Little Mermaid appeared in a tragic fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson in which, unlike the movie, the mermaid and her Prince do not end up together and Jasmine's character was designed especially for Aladdin.

However, Pocahontas WAS a real person and became quite the celebrity in London but sadly passed away soon after arriving in England.
