Harley Race won the final round of a tournament begun in March 1972 over Pak-Sung to become the first Missouri State Heavyweight champion. He won the title six more times before beating Jerry 'Crusher' Blackwell for his seventh title on August 2, 1985. The belt was abandoned six months later.
