Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Richard "Rick" Tyler has an hourglass that grants him random visions of the near future. He also uses the drug Miraclo to get one hour of super powers each day. What is his super hero codename?

Answer: Hourman

Rick's father Rex invented Miraclo and was the first Hourman. Both Rick and Rex were saved from death by the android Hourman from the 853rd century, which was destroyed in the process. Rex hopes to rebuild the android.
2. Jesse Chambers has her father's super speed and her mother's super strength. She first used a version of her father's super hero name and costume, but now uses her mother's name and costume. Apparently being the daughter of two super heroes isn't all it's cracked up to be. What is her super hero codename?

Answer: Liberty Belle

She repeats the speed formula 3x2(9YZ)4A to gain super-speed and used to go by "Jesse Quick". She is married to Hourman.
3. Ted Grant is a world-class boxer with nine lives. What is his super hero codename?

Answer: Wildcat

Ted's "9 Lives" have never been completely explained. For a while they were viewed as a limited commodity, and when they ran out he would finally die forever, but it was recently revealed by Dr. Fate that he "always" has nine lives. Ted was one of the teachers that taught Batman how to fight.
4. Courtney Whitmore uses her Cosmic Converter Belt and Cosmic Staff to fly and fight. What is her cosmic super hero codename?

Answer: Stargirl

Stargirl was created by Geoff Johns, who based her personality and name on that of his sister Courtney, who died on July 17, 1996 in the TWA Flight 800 explosion. She originally became the Star-Spangled Kid to annoy her stepfather, the former Stripesy (the adult sidekick to the original Star-Spangled Kid), but Pat built S.T.R.I.P.E., a robotic suit, so he could accompany her on her adventures.

After receiving the Cosmic Staff from Starman Jack Knight, she adopted the identity of Stargirl.
5. Sonia Sato, a martial arts fighter, has an aversion field, which prevents attacks that target her from landing. What is her super hero codename?

Answer: Judomaster

The first Judomaster appeared in 1965 from Charlton Comics. Sonia first appeared in "Birds of Prey" (#100, 2007), though when she joins the JSA she somehow lost the ability to speak and understand English.
6. Alan Scott is a colorful hero with a major weakness: his powers are stopped by wood. What is his super hero codename?

Answer: Green Lantern

Alan may be a Green Lantern, but he's not a member of the Green Lantern Corps. However, the same Guardians of Oa that run the GLC are the ones that gathered the magic of Earth-One after the Crisis and placed it in the heart of a star. These energies became the sentinent Starheart, which gives Alan his powers. Since he never needs to recharge his ring, Alan is one of the most powerful super-beings... as long as there isn't any wood around.
7. Jason "Jay" Garrick wears a lightning bolt and a winged helmet to look like the Roman god Mercury, which is appropriate considering his power is super speed. What is his super hero codename?

Answer: Flash

Jay wears a modified version of his father's WWI helmet. He sometimes throws it as a weapon, uses it as a shield, or reflects light off the highly polished surface. Jay was the first chairman of the JSA and is one of it's most repected members.
8. Albert Rothstein can grow to over 50 feet tall and has super strength. He's normally 7'6", so he's not really all that small to begin with, despite his code name, so what is his super hero codename?

Answer: Atom Smasher

Al first fought crime as Nuklon, but changed his name to honor his godfather, Al Pratt, the original Atom. Both Pratt and Rothstein got their powers from the same source: Rothstein's grandfather, the super villain Cyclotron.
9. Pieter Cross is one of the top physicians in the world and can only see in complete darkness. What is his super hero codename?

Answer: Dr. Mid-Nite

The doctor who delivered Pieter was the original Dr. Mid-Nite, Charles McNider. Pieter has a pet owl named Charlie after McNider.
10. Michael Holt is the third smartest person in the world and an Olympic gold medal decathlete. He wears a leather jacket with "Fair Play" on the sleeves and a mask in the shape of the letter "T". What is his super hero codename?

Answer: Mr. Terrific

Contemplating suicide after the death of his wife and unborn child, Holt was inspired by the story of Terry Sloane, the original Mr. Terrific. Holt is a technological genius and uses floating "T-Spheres" that have multiple abilities. He is not detectable by electronic means, which he once claimed was a super-power but the ability has also been shown to be linked to his mask and costume, which use nanotechnology.
11. Kent Nelson is an inexperienced sorcerer, but being a hero is his destiny. What is his super hero codename?

Answer: Dr. Fate

Dr. Fate wears the Helmet of Nabu, a powerful wizard whose death signaled the end of the Ninth Age of Magic and the start of the Tenth Age. While still learning his abilities, Kent isn't the first Dr. Fate and he is viewed as a powerful magic user.
12. Jennifer Pierce has trouble controlling her electric powers - she shorts out any electronic device she touches. What is her super hero codename?

Answer: Lightning

Jennifer is the daughter of Jefferson Pierce, aka Black Lightning, and the sister to Anissa, aka Thunder. Pretty easy to see where her super hero name of Lightning comes from.
13. Jeffrey Graves is a former FBI agent uses a whip to fight crime for his country. What is his patriotic super hero codename?

Answer: Mr. America

The original Mr. America was Tex Thompson, who debuted in "Action Comics" #1, 1938 - the same comic that gave us Superman. Graves took up the mantle of Mr. America from his friend Trey Thompson, who was murdered by Vandal Savage ("Justice Society of America", vol. 3, #2, 2007).
14. Sanderson "Sandy" Hawkins is made up of "living silicon" and has earth-based powers. He also suffers from nightmares where he sees the future. What is his super hero codename?

Answer: Sandman

Sandy's nightmares are an ability passed on to him from the Golden Age Sandman, Wesley Dodds, and come from the mythological Sandman (Morpheus, now Daniel). The visions are not welcome, and Sandy often resorts to drugs and coffee to stay awake as long as possible.
15. Nathan Heywood is made up of "living steel". While this grants him super strength, he cannot feel anything and he's so heavy he can damage the ground when he walks. What is his super hero codename?

Answer: Citizen Steel

Nathan is the grandson of Henry Heywood, the original Commander Steel. Not being in the military, he declines to be called the new Commander Steel, claiming to be just an ordinary citizen, and Power Girl names him Citizen Steel ("Justice Society of America", vol. 3, #7, 2007). He wears a costume of a steel alloy designed to make his powers more manageable.
