Answer: Ruby and Garnet

Ruby and Garnet are the main characters of the story. They are best of friends but they are very different. Garnet is quiet and very shy, while Ruby is outgoing and a terrible show off.

2. What was the twins' mother's name?

Answer: Opal

Opal was their mother who passed away three years earlier. The twins don't want a new step mum but their dad falls in love. They decide that they will not let this lady be like a mother to them and try annoying her to make her leave their father.

The twins absolutely hate this new Rose. Ruby is especially mean to her while Garnet follows her.

They actually had to sneak out to London really early. Their dad caught them just as Garnet had to say a line. She freaked out and they were rejected because of Garnet's shyness.

Nick Sharratt and Sue Heap have illustrated lots of Jaqueline Wilson books. Quentin Blake has illustrated Roald Dahl books and the rest of options are made up except for Jean Ure who is an author. Ruby was illustrated by Nick Sharratt and Garnet by Sue Heap.

There was a Doubleday edition published earlier, in 1995, but the Corgi Yearling was published a year later. There are many other Corgi Yearling books by Jacqueline Wilson.

When Richard falls in love with Rose, she starts calling him Ricky. It annoys the twins and their grandma very much and they keep telling her it's not Ricky.
