Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. An unknown person sends letters to Harry. To escape him, Harry and the Dursleys move to a hotel. What is the name of the hotel?

Answer: Railview Hotel

They stay the night at Railview Hotel and eat stale cornflakes and tinned tomatoes for breakfast. The next day the owner of the hotel comes up to them and informs them that she had found a hundred letters addressed to Harry at the front desk.
Cokeworth is the name of the place in which Railview Hotel is located and Hut-on-the-rock is the hut on the small island where Harry and the Dursleys sleep the next night. It is also written as the address on the letter that Hagrid gives Harry.
2. Who was the last person to shake hands with Harry in the Leaky Cauldron?

Answer: Doris Crockford

Doris Crockford kept coming back for more handshakes with Harry and shook his hand one last time before Hagrid led him out to the small, walled courtyard which led to Diagon Alley.
Professor Quirrell, Dedalus Diggle and Tom all shook hands with Harry along with a few more unnamed people in the Leaky Cauldron. Just a small measure of how famous Harry actually was.
3. How much money did Harry pay to Mr.Ollivander for his wand?

Answer: Seven Galleons

Harry tried almost every wand in the shop before he selected the one that had a phoenix feather core and was made out of holly. Mr. Ollivander told him that the phoenix who had provided the core of Harry's wand gave another feather which was the core of the wand of Lord Voldemort.
Harry felt a little nervous and wasn't sure that he liked Mr. Ollivander that much. He paid seven Galleons from the small fortune he had inherited from his parents and Mr. Ollivander bowed him from his shop.
4. At Hogwarts, the students talk about their families. Neville mentions that his great-uncle pushed him off of a certain place. What place was this?

Answer: Blackpool Pier

Most of Neville's family thought he was a Squib for ages. His great-uncle Algie kept trying to force some magic out of him. Neville almost drowned in the water but nothing happened till he was eight. Great-uncle Algie was holding him upside down by the ankles out of an upstairs window and he accidentally let go.

But Neville bounced all the way down the garden and into the road. His grandmother was so happy that she was crying.
5. Malfoy stole Neville's Remembrall and took it up into the air with him. He then threw it from up there. How far did Harry have to dive to catch it?

Answer: 50 feet

"He caught that thing in his hand after a fifty foot dive".
Professor McGonagall tells that to Oliver Wood, the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Wood is desperately searching for a Seeker to play for the Gryffindor Quidditch team and when Professor McGonagall saw Harry catch the Remembrall after a steep dive, she immediately recommended him as a Seeker to Oliver Wood.
6. When Malfoy challenged Harry to a duel, Ron offered to become Harry's 'second'. What is a 'second'?

Answer: Someone to take over if you die in a duel

Malfoy took Crabbe as his second and told Harry and Ron to meet him and Crabbe in the trophy room at midnight because the trophy room was always unlocked. Harry had no idea what a wizard's duel involved or what a 'second' meant until Ron told him after Malfoy had left.
7. Apart from the Common Welsh Green, which other wild dragon inhabits Britain?

Answer: Hebridean Black

Ron tells Harry about dragons shortly after they realise that Hagrid is raising an illegal dragon, a Norwegian Ridgeback called Norbert, in his cabin.
The Vipertooth is native of Peru, the Short Snout belongs to Sweden and the home of the Horntail is in Hungary.
8. What was the name of Nicolas Flamel's wife?

Answer: Perenelle

Nicolas Flamel (aged 665) lived with his wife, Perenelle, who was 658 years old, in Devon. Flamel was in possession of the Sorcerer's Stone, which can produce the elixir of life.
Molly is the name of Ron Weasley's mother, I made up Leena and Rita is the name of the Daily Prophet newspaper reporter in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire".
9. How tall was the mountain troll that cornered Hermione in the bathroom?

Answer: Twelve feet

The troll was let in by Quirrell who was later revealed to be a servant of Lord Voldemort. The troll was full grown and yet Harry and Ron managed to knock it out. Harry stuck his wand up its nose and Ron knocked it out with its own club. They received five points each for their brave action, though.
10. Fluffy is the three-headed dog who guards the Sorcerer's Stone. How can you get past it?

Answer: Play music to it; music sends it to sleep

Hagrid accidentally lets slip that Fluffy can be put to sleep by playing music to it. Harry realises that one of the defences that protects the Stone(Fluffy) is not secure and he believes that Snape will try to steal it. He hurriedly goes to search for Dumbledore only to realise that the Headmaster is away.
