Nico doesn't find out that he is the son of Hades until the end of the "Titan's Curse", when Percy realizes that Nico was a son of Hades. After he figures it out, the underworld becomes his home for most of the time.

His sister Hazel can control the minerals of the earth. Nico can summon dead spirits and can control the dead, earning him the title of Ghost King. He cannot, however, raise them forever. Only Percy, Luke and Achilles were invincible, but Luke and Achilles died and Percy lost his invincibility when he crossed the river to go to New Rome.

In "The Titan's Curse", Nico figured out he could raise and lower the dead at the very end when skeletons followed Nico and Percy. He summoned dead spirits often, especially in "The Battle of the Labyrinth".

Percy actually visited the Lotus Hotel in "The Lightning Thief". When Nico and Bianca were introduced in "The Titan's Curse", it was revealed that the siblings were trapped in the casino for years - but it felt like weeks.

He found Hazel while he was looking for his dead sister Bianca. When he discovered that Bianca had chosen rebirth, he found Hazel instead in the Fields of Asphodel. It's unspecified when Nico finds Hazel, but it's sometime between "The Lost Hero" and "The Mark of Athena".

When Nico first finds Percy at Camp Jupiter, Nico hides the fact that he knows Percy really well - in fact, Percy gets mad at Nico when he regains his memory and finds out that Nico was tricking him all along. When Percy meets Reyna, she says something about Nico being the Ambassador of Pluto and it being rare that he was at Jupiter.

Answer: He was pulled in because he got too close to the pit while looking for the Doors of Death

Nico was pulled in. He nearly went insane, and soon after he escaped, he was captured by Gaea's minions and was trapped in a bronze jar, where he was deprived of food, water and oxygen and barely survived by eating pomegranate seeds that put him in a comatose state called a Death Trance.

In "The Mark of Athena", Percy had a vision of Nico in a jar, which was when Hazel explained what a Death Trance was. Nico went into Tartarus at the end of "The Son of Neptune". and was captured in "The Mark of Athena".
