Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher tormented Harry during "The Order of the Phoenix".

Answer: Dolores Umbridge

Though not explicitly mentioned in the books but later confirmed by JK Rowling, Dolores Umbridge was a student of Slytherin and a contemporary of Severus Snape, both during her school years and her later (albeit brief) tenure teaching at Hogwarts. Umbridge was a high-ranking official in the Ministry of Magic, having reached the rank of Senior Undersecretary to the Minister for Magic.

After the departure of the previous Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher (who turned out to be Death Eater Barty Crouch Jr disguised as Auror Alastor Moody by way of Polyjuice Potion), Umbridge was installed at Hogwarts at the request of Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge.

She was disliked by almost all staff and students, save for a select few, who later became part of her Inquisitorial Squad during her time as High Inquisitor.
2. This son of the Boy Who Lived expressed his fears over being sorted into Slytherin at the end of "The Deathly Hallows".

Answer: Albus Potter

Despite his siblings, parents and grandparents being sorted into Gryffindor during their school years, Albus Potter's time at Hogwarts saw him a part of Slytherin house. In the epilogue of "The Deathly Hallows", Albus is suitably concerned that he might be sorted into Slytherin.

His father, Harry, reassures him that it is nothing to be scared or ashamed of, as his very middle name, Severus, was that of one of the most important men in Harry's life, who happened to be a Slytherin. Albus' story continues in "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child".
3. This student was killed by his own Fiendfyre in the Room of Requirement in "The Deathly Hallows".

Answer: Vincent Crabbe

Vincent Crabbe was one of Draco Malfoy's closest cronies (the other being Gregory Goyle). He wasn't particularly kind to Harry and co., particularly to Hermione due to her being Muggle-born. In their second year, Hermione's Polyjuice Potion allowed Ron and Harry to disguise themselves as Crabbe and Goyle respectively to question Draco about what he knew about the Chamber of Secrets. Jumping forward to seventh year, and Crabbe was by then pretty much completely indoctrinated into the Death Eater way of thinking, thanks to the "teachings" of Amycus Carrow, and attempted to kill Harry, Ron and Hermione in the Room of Requirement by casting Fiendfyre.

Unfortunately, he lacked the ability to properly control it and perished.
4. During "The Half-Blood Prince", this former Slytherin returned to Hogwarts to teach Potions.

Answer: Horace Slughorn

Horace Slughorn was Head of Slytherin and Potions Master during the school years of both Snape and Lily, and also took a shine to a young Tom Riddle, with whom he discussed Horcruxes. Ultimately, Slughorn chose to retire, but was convinced by Dumbledore to return to his post as Potions Master just before Harry started his sixth year.

This meant Snape was able to take on Defence Against the Dark Arts, and when Snape became Headmaster, Slughorn once again became Head of Slytherin.
5. This childhood friend of Lily Evans later taught Potions at Hogwarts, despite a desire to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts instead.

Answer: Severus Snape

Severus Snape was seen mostly as an antagonist to Harry and his friends, but not all was as it seemed. He may not have liked Harry because of the way Harry's father, James, had treated him when they were in school together, but he protected Harry to the best of his ability because of his love for Harry's mother, Lily. Lily was Snape's one true friend, and he had been in love with her for a very long time.

His Patronus even appeared as a doe, the same as Lily's. Snape taught Potions at Hogwarts for years, but briefly covered Defence Against the Dark Arts in "The Prisoner of Azkaban", where he set homework to the students that led Hermione to the realisation that Professor Lupin was a werewolf.
6. Hermione's Polyjuice Potion brewed in "The Chamber of Secrets" used the hair of this Slytherin's cat.

Answer: Millicent Bulstrode

It was Hermione who came up with the idea of brewing a Polyjuice Potion, with the intent of sneaking into the Slytherin common rooms and finding out more about what was going on with the Chamber of Secrets. Her seemingly-foolproof plan required a single hair from each of Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle and Millicent Bulstrode.

When Bulstrode and Hermione had an altercation at the Duelling Club, Hermione was able to obtain some hair from her robes. Unfortunately, this hair belonged to Bulstrode's cat, so the Polyjuice didn't have quite the intended effect on Hermione, leaving Harry and Ron to go it alone.
7. The house ghost of Slytherin, this character was taught by the house's founder himself, Salazar Slytherin.

Answer: The Bloody Baron

The Bloody Baron (real name unknown) was one of the earliest Slytherin students. Madly in love with Helena Ravenclaw but finding this love unrequited, he killed her and then himself in a fit of grief. Both returned as ghosts and took up residence in Hogwarts, with the Baron regretting his actions forever more.

The reclusive Helena mostly kept to herself, but helped Harry find the lost Diadem of Ravenclaw during his Horcrux hunt in "The Deathly Hallows".
8. This brother of Harry's godfather replaced the Horcrux locket that Harry and Dumbledore found in "The Half-Blood Prince".

Answer: Regulus Black

Regulus Black was an avid fan of Lord Voldemort and aspired to be one of his closest Death Eaters. However, he changed his allegiance when Voldemort used the Black family's house elf, Kreacher, to test the magical protections surrounding one of his Horcruxes. Outraged by the callous cruelty shown to Kreacher, Regulus worked quickly to try and destroy the Horcrux, but ultimately died in his attempts - it was protected by the Drink of Despair, a potion of endless thirst, and Regulus was pulled into a lake by Inferi when he tried to quench his thirst with water.
9. This blond-haired son of Lucius and Narcissa was not particularly kind towards Harry, Ron and Hermione during their Hogwarts years.

Answer: Draco Malfoy

Draco Malfoy first met Harry Potter in Diagon Alley before their first year of school. After Harry rejected his offer of friendship, in favor of friends Draco felt were beneath him, Draco spent most of his free time making life as miserable as he could for Harry and his friends at Hogwarts. Draco stuck mostly to small bits of nastiness until his final year at school when he joined the dreaded Death Eaters.

He was tasked by Voldemort with fixing the Vanishing Cabinet in Hogwarts' Room of Requirement that let all of the Death Eaters into the school for what became the final Battle of Hogwarts in "The Deathly Hallows". Draco was almost killed by Fiendfyre in the Room of Requirement in the same book, after Vincent Crabbe lost control of his spell, but was rescued by Harry, Ron, and Hermione who were in the Room searching for Ravenclaw's lost diadem.
10. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was born with this name.

Answer: Tom Riddle

The Dark Lord, You-Know-Who, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, Voldemort - all monikers for possibly the most powerful dark wizard in wizarding history, Tom Riddle. He showed remarkable aptitude as a student and was a particular favourite of Horace Slughorn, but his malevolent attitude led to the splitting of his soul into Horcruxes as a means of achieving immortality.

A prophecy suggesting a child would be born at the end of July with the power to destroy him spurred him to track down someone he thought fit the description - Harry Potter (the other possible child was Neville Longbottom).

When Riddle killed Harry's parents and attempted to kill the infant, the curse backfired, leaving Harry with a scar on his forehead and inadvertently making him into a living Horcrux. Thus began the final seventeen years of Riddle's life, during which he shared the body of Quirinus Quirrell, had his first Horcrux unknowingly destroyed by a Basilisk fang, had his physical body "reborn" using Harry's blood, duelled Dumbledore in the Ministry of Magic, launched a full scale attack on Hogwarts, use the Killing Curse against Harry once again (destroying his own Horcrux), and finally being defeated by Harry.
