Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What were Dr. Lucafont's and Stephano's true identities?

Answer: The Hook-handed man and Count Olaf

The Baudelaires could tell it was Olaf pretending to be an assistant. When Lucafont showed up, they pretended they wanted to see the inside of a doctor's car, because they were suspicious.
2. What venomous snake killed Uncle Monty?

Answer: The Mamba du Mal

A Black Mamba is another specimen, the Incredibly Deadly Viper wasn't deadly, and a Virginian Wolfsnake has nothing to do with Monty's death.
3. What can't you let a Virginian Wolfsnake near?

Answer: Typewriter

No one knows why this is so. It's just what Monty says.
4. What was the name of the ship sailing to Peru?

Answer: Prospero

Count Olaf, using the alias Stephano, never got them onto the ship.
5. What did Uncle Monty do to Stephano (or Count Olaf's) ticket?

Answer: Shredded it to pieces

"Just then, Stephano threw Klaus's lamp on Monty's head, saying, 'Accidents happen.'" They do, but you can tell that wasn't an accident.
6. When the Baudelaires woke up one morning, they found a note written by Monty. Of the items on that note, what did Monty think would take a while to find?

Answer: Canned peaches

I would think a fireproof canoe would take longer to find than canned peaches!
7. What did Lousy Lane, where Monty lived, smell like?

Answer: Horseradish

It's mentioned both at the beginning and the end of the book. It's got to smell bad there!
8. Who was the man who took the snakes and lizards away at the end?

Answer: Bruce

Sunny cried out "viper", and the Baudelaires hoped Bruce would let them keep the Incredibly Deadly Viper, but sadly Bruce said it belonged to the Herpetelogical Society. Sunny only got to say good bye to her friend.
9. What was special about the Incredibly Deadly Viper's name?

Answer: It was a misnomer

Monty mentions that. He says since everyone at the Society teases him about his name, he would scare them with the Incredibly Deadly Viper. It's completely harmless. Since Monty discovered it, he got to name the snake.
10. How did Count Olaf hide the eye tattoo?

Answer: He put makeup on it

Violet discovered this when she invented a lockpick and broke into Olaf's case. She found makeup and figured out Olaf's sneaky move.
