Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these is not a type of bike?

Answer: Scooter

BMX are stunt bikes popular in the eighties and have made a comeback in recent years. Racers have drop handlebars, thin wheels and are the fastest type of bike. Penny Farthings were strange old bikes with a huge front wheel.
2. If riding at night what should your bike have?

Answer: Lights and reflectors

It is important that drivers can see you; however light you think it is, it's always a good idea to be as visible as possible.
3. What should you always wear at night when cycling?

Answer: Reflective clothing

Lights and reflectors are good to have on your bike, but a bright reflective jacket can be seen from any direction.
4. Which of these types of transport is the newest?

Answer: Bicycle

All right, a little bit sneaky. But the first modern bike with a chain didn't appear until 1885. The first airship flew across the English Channel in 1852, and both the electric car and tram appeared in 1881.
5. When changing gear on a bike what shouldn't you do?

Answer: Push hard on the pedal

If you push too hard on the pedal while changing gear, you can actually break the chain.
6. When approaching green traffic lights on a bike, what should you do?

Answer: Keep going but prepare to stop

If you don't feel safe then feel free to get off and walk around using the crossings provided for pedestrians. Otherwise you can carry on.
7. What should you be aware of after you've ridden through water?

Answer: Brakes might not work as well

Always a good idea to test your brakes after going through water. The other answers might be true but stopping is more important!
8. Where should you keep your bike when you are not riding it?

Answer: Somewhere safe and dry

If you can keep your bike inside in a locked space like a bike shed or garage that would be ideal. If you can't then make sure it's locked to something solid and under a cover if it's outside for a while.
9. You should make sure that your chain has a light coating of what?

Answer: Oil

You should keep your chain lubricated but also clean. You might need a grown-up to help you but it's a great chance to get really dirty!
10. What is a bicycle made for two called?

Answer: Tandem

Tandems are good fun but make sure you trust the person at the front!
