Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ahoy, mateys, Cracker Jack caramel popcorn's "boy and dog" logo was modeled after the snack creator F. W. Rueckheim's grandson. What was the name given to the boy on the packaging?

Answer: Sailor Jack

Rueckheim's grandson Robert died of pneumonia at age 8, shortly after his image was starting to be used, around 1916. The dog featured in the logo is named Bingo. Cracker Jacks are made from popcorn, peanuts and molasses. Being made under that name since the late 19th century, some consider them to be the first junk food.
2. In the movie "Goodfellas" who is the 'made-man' Tommy DeVito kills after being told to "go home and get your shinebox"?

Answer: Billy Batts

1990s "Goodfellas" was about the life and times of organized crime members in New York City. Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci) was a juvenile delinquent who joined the mob. As a youth he shined shoes to earn money. Years later, Billy Batts (Frank Vincent) needled him about it; not long after, DeVito, who had a hair-trigger temper, and another character killed Batts.

A 'made man' is someone who has full Mafia membership.
3. Which of these mammals can't jump?

Answer: elephant

Not only can't elephants jump but they are the only mammals that can't jump. Their weight (2 to 7 tons or more) is one reason as is the shape and placement of their leg bones; the leg bones point downward so the elephant can't push off the ground.
4. Listen, ya durned galoot! It's time to name the third oldest National Park in the United States, which was designated on October 1st, 1890, and is often associated with a cartoon.

Answer: Yosemite

Yosemite Sam is a cartoon character who has a notoriously short temper and serious anger management issues, especially when rabbits are involved; particularly Bugs Bunny. Sam was introduced as a cartoon character in 1945. Yosemite National Park was first set aside as a protected area in 1864.
5. The number 57 on Heinz Ketchup bottles represents what, if anything?

Answer: a combination of lucky numbers

The "57 Varieties" label was a marketing ploy by company founder Henry Heinz. It was a combination of his and his wife's lucky numbers (5 and 7, respectively). Heinz's horseradish was the first product to use the designation but at the time of its introduction, 1896, Heinz was producing over 60 products.
6. A pentagon has five sides; how many sides does a decagon have?

Answer: 10

Decagon comes from the Greek words "deka" meaning ten and "gonia" meaning angles. In a regular decagon the lengths of all sides and degrees of angles are the same. Describing it in more detail becomes complicated so let's leave it at that.
7. How many times per day does the average human heart beat?

Answer: 100,000

There are 86,400 seconds in a day so a human heart beats once in roughly nine-tenths of a second. The normal resting adult heart beats at 60 to 100 times per minute. Under normal circumstances the sinoatrial node of the heart determines the rhythm.
8. If we were playing poker we might want two snowmen; if we were playing bingo we might want two fat ladies; here we want to know at what age Michelangelo died?

Answer: 88

Michelangelo died in Rome in 1564, at age 88, a long life in any time period. By accounts he lived in squalor and ate poorly, so a flawless lifestyle cannot be attributed to his longevity. His greatest rival for the term "Renaissance Man" was likely Leonardo da Vinci, whom Michelangelo outlived by 44 years.

In poker, if you have two 8s in your hand they are called snowmen. In "bingo lingo," especially in Great Britain, the O-88 ball is called two fat ladies.
9. A cow has how many compartments in its stomach?

Answer: four

In fact, a cow has one stomach but it has four compartments, each used for a different stage of digestion, hence the common term of four stomachs. The compartments, in the order of how the cow digests, are the reticulum, rumen, omasum and the abomasum, which is most like a human's stomach in that it releases enzymes to break down proteins and starches.
10. Don't be a donkey, name the movie among these to have its sequel released in the same year.

Answer: King Kong

"King Kong" (1933) is generally regarded as one of the greatest horror films of all time. It is the story of a giant ape who tried to possess a young woman, played by Fay Wray. The U.S. Library of Congress selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry.

The sequel, "Son of Kong" was released nine months later but was scripted to be more humorous than adventuresome. Screenwriter Ruth Rose chose not to try to top the original.
