1. In 1783 a duck, a rooster and a sheep became the first living creatures to make a flight in a hot-air balloon. How long did the flight last?

Answer: 8 minutes

In that 8 minutes the balloon, which had been made by the Montgolfier brothers, travel about 3 kilometers. The rooster received a broken wing probably as a result of the sheep kicking him.
2. Foghorn Leghorn, is a chicken (or more correctly a rooster) of considerable cartoon fame. He was created by Roger McKimson. What was the name of the first 'Foghorn Leghorn' cartoon?

Answer: Walky Talky Hawky

This cartoon was released in 1946. It was nominated for an Academy Award but lost to Tom and Jerry's 'The Cat Concert'. In this cartoon Henery, the Chicken Hawk, does not know what a chicken looks like and this results in Foghorn and Dawg pulling pranks on each other using Henery.
3. What is the Dutch word for chicken?

Answer: Kip

Huhn is the German word for chicken, poulet is French and ayam is Indonesian. In the Netherlands the word 'kip' is not used to mean a coward.
4. What sort of birds do sailors sometimes call 'Mother Carey's Chickens'?

Answer: Petrels

The name can refer to several species of petrels such as the Stormy Petrel or Leach's Petrel. Mother Carey is a corruption of the Latin words 'mater cara' (Mother dear = Virgin Mary).

Mr. Chicken, who was a civilian, attached himself to a mixed party of troopers of mounted police and cavalry. They routed a force of about 100 mutineers. A pursuit followed in which Mr. Chicken forged ahead. He charged into the middle of about 20 of the enemy, killing five before he was badly wounded. He was rescued by the other soldiers.
