Queen Victoria was born on the 24th May 1819 and ascended to the throne on 20th June 1837 at the age of 18 following the death of her uncle William IV who died without leaving any legitimate heirs. In 1840 she married her cousin Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and they went on to have nine children before Albert died of typhoid in 1861. Victoria died in January 1901 at her Isle of Wight estate Osbourne House.

She had reigned for 63 years, 7 months and 2 days. She was the longest ruler of Great Britain until her great-great-grandaughter Queen Elizabeth II surpassed this in 2015.

Butterflies are beautiful creatures that belong to the order Lepidoptera which also includes moths. Butterflies have a life cycle which is divided into four parts. They begin life as an egg laid on a leaf, become a caterpillar, turn into a pupa and then emerge as a butterfly. Butterflies generally have brightly coloured wings with unique patterns made up of many tiny scales.

The life span of a butterfly can range from one day to over a year depending on the particular species.

The carrot is a root vegetable that is normally orange in colour although it can also be found in a variety of other colours including purple, white and yellow. They get their orange colour from their high content of beta-carotine and are a good source of vitamin K and vitamin B6.

The myth that they help people to see in the dark was a story invented by the Royal Air Force in World War 2 to explain why their pilots had so much success during night battles to disguise the fact that they had made great advances in the technology they were using.

Originally her name was Lady Freckles but that was changed to Eccles because Amy (the young daughter of Tracy Barlow) could not say the name properly.

When Blanche died in 2010 she left the dog in her will to Ken Barlow. In July 2018 Eccles was poisoned after eating some sausages laced with slug poison. Luckily she was found in time and after a trip to the vets made a full recovery.

Pontefract is an historic market town in West Yorkshire. The horse racing course at Pontefract is 2 miles and 125 yards long (16.57 furlongs) and stages flat races between the months of March and October. Initially the course was horseshoe shaped but was changed to an oval shape in 1986 when it became the longest continuous flat racing circuit in Britain. One of the principle races which is held on the course is the Listed Silver Tankard Stakes for two year olds which is run of the distance of one mile.

This race was first contested in 1993 when it was won by the British jockey Walter Swinburn riding the horse Barbaroja.

Madeira is a fortified wine named for the island of Madeira, a possession of Portugal which lies in the Atlantic Ocean. During the 17th and 18th centuries the island was ideally situated on the trade routes between Africa and the Americas and the wine that was produced there was fortified with spirits to survive the long journeys across the sea.

This created a distinctive taste which the winemakers on the island learnt to make in their own vineyards. The wine is available in a range of styles ranging from dry to sweet and has a variety of different flavours including walnut oil, peach, caramel burnt sugar and orange juice.

This makes it a versatile drink that can be served at at any meal.

Legend has it that when the sentence was passed Peter requested that he be crucified upside down as he felt unworthy to die in the same manner as Jesus.

Ezra Weston Loomis Pound (30 October 1885 - 1 November 1972) was an American poet and critic who was one of the major figures in Modernist poetry movement in the early 20th century. During the Second World War he lived in Italy and was a supporter of the Fascist regime of the Italian leader Mussolini.

After the war he was returned to America where he was tried for treason and imprisoned in the St Elizabeth's Hospital mental institution for 12 years until 1958. After his release he moved back to Italy where he spent the rest of his life.

His most famous works include "In a Station of the Metro" (1913) and "Hugh Selwyn Mauberley" (1920)
