Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Amethyst

Answer: Purple

An amethyst is a violet/purple variety of quartz.

While physical amethysts have a range of colour within the shade of purple, the color itself can be described as a strong reddish purple.
2. Azure

Answer: Blue

'Azure' actually gets its origin from 'lapis lazuli', which is a metamorphic rock and semi-precious stone.

As a shade of blue, azure is described as a bright, cyan-blue color named after the rock lapis lazuli. It is often described as the color of the sky on a clear day.
3. Bubble Gum

Answer: Pink

There are a lot of different brands of chewing gum out there nowadays, but some of the earliest examples were 'Dubble Bubble' and 'Bazooka bubble gum'. These were a distinctive pink colour from which the shade has taken its name.

And that shade can be described as a light colour of pink-red.
4. Carrot

Answer: Orange

I think most of us know that carrots are a yummy root vegetable of a distinctive orange colouring.

And as a shade description, carrot is a vivid orange.
5. Cherry

Answer: Red

Cherries are a fruit of the genus Prunus, a fleshy drupe (meaning its flesh is surrounding a 'stone' or seed). There are many different varieties, with a range of red shading.

That said, considering the 'average' cherry colour, the shade is described as a deep bright red color, like that of a cherry.
6. Chocolate

Answer: Brown

Technically, chocolate is made from roasted and ground cacao seeds, but really we all know that it comes from heaven. Depending on how it is made and what ingredients are used in finishing it, chocolate can come in a wide variety of shades of brown. And then there is the confection known as white chocolate.

So, as a colour shade, chocolate is described as a tone of dark brown that resembles chocolate, a representation of the colour of the most common type of chocolate, milk chocolate.
7. Ivory

Answer: White

Ivory is a hard, white material from the tusks and teeth of animals, but traditionally from elephants.

As a shade of white, ivory is described (as you might expect) as an off-white color that resembles ivory (as described above), with a slight hint of yellow.
8. Mustard

Answer: Yellow

Mustard is a condiment made from the mustard seed. Depending on how it is prepared, the mustard flavour can range from sweet to spicy and can vary in colour from bright yellow to dark brown.

As a colour shade, mustard is described as a dull, dark yellow colour that resembles culinary mustard.
9. Sable

Answer: Black

A sable is an animal from the marten species, historically valued for its dark brown to black fur. The term is also used to refer to black in heraldry.

And as you might expect, when describing the shade, it is a dark brown or black colour, the colour of sable fur.
10. Sea Foam

Answer: Green

Sea foam is created by the agitation of seawater, especially when there is algae or other dissolved organic matter present. Most commonly, this happens with breaking waves in a surf zone adjacent to a shoreline.

As a colour, sea foam is described as a light blue-green with a hint of grey.
