Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Video Games: The first coin-operated video game was "Computer Space" introduced in 1971. In what two films are characters seen playing Computer Space?

Answer: "Soylent Green" and "Jaws"

"Computer Space" certainly changed life in taverns and wherever else it was placed. Some restored "Computer Space" games have sold for over $2000 on the internet. The game is only on the screen a few seconds in each film.
2. Religion: Which of these is not a foundation or characteristic of Judaism?

Answer: Book of Revelation

Judaism had a great influence on both Christianity and Islam. Teachings come from the Torah, comparable to the Bible or Koran. Interpretations are made by rabbis, and traditions are contained in the Talmud. It is a monotheistic religion, meaning that there is one higher power and not multiple gods.
3. Sports: When the modern Olympics were revived in 1896, competition was limited to ten sports. Which of these was not included?

Answer: Dressage

The other sports were cycling, swimming, tennis, weight lifting, rowing, track and field, and wrestling. Rowing was not held due to poor weather conditions. The United States won the most gold medals--11. However, Greece won 46 medals, including 10 golds.
4. Science: Ivan Petrovich Pavlov received the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1902. What was his special field?

Answer: Physiology

Although his experimentation with conditioned reflex is most remembered, Pavlov was first and foremost a physiologist. He was renowned for his studies on digestion that eventually lead him into stimulus-reflex discoveries.
5. History: When Hernan Cortes landed in what is now Mexico in 1519, who was the leader of the Aztec culture?

Answer: Montezuma

Montezuma, before the Spaniard invasion, was noted as a warrior who increased the influence of Aztec culture. He tried to welcome the Spanish until his people began to rebel against Spanish inroads. The Spanish then made Montezuma a hostage to control the masses. He was later viewed as being too complacent with the Spanish. One legend states that he was stoned to death by his own people as punishment for his pro-Spanish policies.

The three incorrect answers are names of mountains found in Mexico and South America.
6. Celebrities: Which of these men was never married to Elizabeth Taylor?

Answer: Montgomery Clift

Taylor and Clift had a friendship, but never married. Fortensky was a truck driver that Taylor met in rehab and married in a ceremony at Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch. Warner was a United States Senator from Virginia. Fisher was involved in the triangle with Taylor and Debbie Reynolds.
7. World: In your purse you have Yuan, Jiao, and Fen. Where are you?

Answer: People's Republic of China

Chinese currency is named Renminbi, which translates in English as "People's Currency". One Yuan = 10 Jiao; 1 Jiao = 10 Fen.
8. Movies: Who played the grown-up quiz-kid in "Magnolia"?

Answer: William H. Macy

Macy plays an adult saddled with a childhood spent on quiz shows. His character remains too tied to the past. Robards is the dying man and Hoffman is his nurse. Philip Baker Hall's character is also dying but where the
Robards' character is comatose much of the time, Hall acts as a character counter-point in that he attempts to seek redemption from his wife and daughter but is rejected.
9. Hobbies: In bridge, your partner bids seven no-trump. The player at your right doubles. What is your only bid except pass?

Answer: Redouble

Your partner has made a grand-slam bid at the highest level. The player on your right has doubled, meaning that the score or penalty is doubled after the hand is played. A redouble doubles either the penalty or the score.
10. Children: What two colors would you mix to get orange?

Answer: Red and yellow

Blue, red, and yellow are primary pigment colors and many other colors can be made by mixing. Mixing blue and yellow, for instance, yields green. Black, the absence of color, and white are used for shading although not considered primary colors.
