Answer: a divorcee

Wallis Simpson, nee Bessie Wallis Warfield, had already been divorced from Earl Winfield Spencer, Jr. and was in the process of a divorce from Ernest Aldrich Simpson. The song "Frosty the Snowman" was written by Walter Rollins and Steve Nelson in 1950 as a follow up song for Gene Autry after the success of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer". It mentions his "old silk hat". Silk hat is an alternative name for top hat, as are stove pipe hat and topper.
6. Which street in London, associated with the press, was named after a river that is built over and runs underground?

Answer: Fleet Street

Fleet Street has been used for publishing since c1500. The first London daily newspaper started there in the 18th century and several national newspapers based themselves nearby. Even though most have moved away, the UK press is still often referred to as "Fleet Street".

The River Fleet is the largest of London's underground rivers. It is pretty much unnoticed although it can be heard through gratings if you know where to listen.
7. What word links the "Lindy Hop", the game of golf, and the artist Jean-Honoré Fragonard?

Answer: swing

"The Lindy Hop" was one of the most popular dances of the Swing era of the 1930s and 40s. It was possibly named after aviator Charles Lindbergh.

A lot of analysis and thought has gone into what makes the perfect golf swing. However, some professionals have swings that seem to disobey all the rules but are succcessful, such as Jim Furyk, once described as "like a one armed man trying to wrestle a snake in a phone booth".

Jean-Honoré Fragonard was a prolific 18th century French painter, whose most famous or infamous work is 'The Swing', which shows a young woman on a swing, pushed by an old gentlemen, perhaps a bishop, while her lover gazes up her skirt.

10. The nine questions should point you at a famous duo.

Answer: Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers

VIRGINIA(1) Katherine McMath was born in 1911 in Independence, Missouri. A cousin had difficulty pronouncing Virginia, and she ended up being called Ginger. When her mother remarried, she took the surname of her mother's new husband, Rogers.

Frederick AUSTERLITZ(2) was born in 1899 in Omaha, Nebraska. He performed with his sister Adele, and they used the surname Astaire, possibly after an uncle.

Fred and Ginger's first movie together was "Flying Down to RIO(3)" in 1933, where they were supporting players to Dolores del Río.

They were so successful that, despite Astaire's initial reluctance to be part of a team again, they made a sequence of movies for RKO. "The Gay DIVORCEE(4)" in 1934 was followed by "Roberta" and "TOP HAT(5)" in 1935.

In 1936 they made "Follow the FLEET(6)" and "SWING(7) Time".

"Shall We Dance" in 1937 was followed by "Carefree" in 1938.

Their final RKO movie was "The Story of Vernon and Irene CASTLE(8)" in 1939.

They reunited ten years later for MGM's "The Barkleys of Broadway".

Marcello Mastroianni and Giulietta Masina starred together in a Fellini movie about an Astaire and Rogers tribute act called "GINGER AND FRED(9)" in 1986.
