1. "Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee..." was a chart-topper in 1963. Which trio took the song to the top?

Answer: Peter Paul and Mary

The song was written by Leonard Lipton and Peter Yarrow, the Peter part of PP&M. It was Number 2 in the Billboard Charts in 1962, and topped the US "Easy Listening" charts the following year. Conspiracy theorists insisted that some of the lyrics referred to drugs use.
2. Ireland has a rich sporting legacy. In 2000 a team called the Dublin Dragons was formed. What was their chosen sport?

Answer: American football

Based in Lucan, County Dublin, the Dragons were among the founding members of the Irish American Football League
3. Which martial arts expert went on to a successful movie career including movies such as "Way of the Dragon" and "Enter The Dragon"?

Answer: Bruce Lee

"Way of the Dragon" was released in 1972 and "Enter The Dragon" the following year. (The former was also known as "Return of the Dragon". Lee died in July 1973 in mysterious circumstances. He had collapsed a few months earlier, but seemed to have recovered.

The cause of death was officially given as a reaction to an ingredient in a painkiller, but some claimed it was a delayed reaction to a martial arts strike he had sustained weeks earlier.
4. Which American aircraft company manufactured a bomber known as the B-23 Dragon?

Answer: Douglas

The B-23 Dragon first flew in July 1939, but only 38 were ever built and it was never employed in its intended role as a bomber. Quite simply, it was outclassed by other US rivals.
5. If you had been a visitor to Hong Kong in the 1980s or 1990s, you might well have travelled on a Dennis Dragon. What kind of transportation was that?

Answer: Bus

The Dennis Dragon was a double-decker bus built in the UK. There were several variants, including the Dennis Condor, but the buses intended for the Hong Kong market were known as Dragons. The Dennis Dragon was also used in several African countries. The Dragon was superseded in Hong King in 1997.
6. The financial crisis that hit the world in 2008 and 2009 had many casualties, among them a sporting team called the San Francisco Dragons. What sport did they play during their (brief) existence?

Answer: Lacrosse

The San Francisco Dragons joined Major League Lacrosse in 2006, and moved to San Jose for the 2008 season, though still under their original name. The team folded in 2009.
7. "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" was a 2010 movie based on a novel of the same name. Who wrote the book?

Answer: Stieg Larsson

This was the first of a trilogy of crime novels by the Swedish author Stieg Larsson who, sadly, did not live to see his books become hugely successful.
Stieg Larsson was born on 5th August 1954 in Skelleftehamn, Sweden, and died on 9th November 2004 in Stockholm, Sweden. A journalist by training, he wrote three novels (known as the "Millennium Trio") that were only published after his death. Their English titles were "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", "The Girl Who Played with Fire", and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest."
8. The name "Dragon" was used for a wide range of foods and drinks. "Red Dragon" was a traditional ale with a deep red hue. Where in the UK was it brewed?

Answer: Wales

Red Dragon Ales were brewed in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The brewers described it thus: "An unusually red coloured beer, blending the red ale traditions of the North East and Ireland with a hint of Welsh flair."
9. It's not often that non-American movies score notable successes in the Academy awards, but one that did was the Chinese-language "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" which picked up four Oscars in 2001. Who directed the movie?

Answer: Ang Lee

The movie had eleven nominations and won Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film; Best Art Direction; Best Original Score; and Best Cinematography. In 2010, 'Empire' magazine ranked it Number 66 in a list of "The 100 Best Films Of World Cinema". Set in ancient China, the movie told the story of the quest for a magical stolen sword and the hunt for an assassin.
10. Which of these became a familiar phrase in "Dragons' Den", the television show for budding entrepreneurs?

Answer: I'm out

"Dragons' Den" originated in Japan and quickly spread among television companies worldwide. It was called "Shark Tank" in the USA. The basic idea was that a group of rich and influential business leaders sat in judgment on entrepreneurs who wanted money to develop their inventions or services. If the Dragons thought there was a chance of success, or to make money, they invested their own money. Those familiar with the show in the UK will remember that the dragons were frequently scathing in their dismissal of ideas that they thought would not work, or would not make any money. Each would give an opinion in turn, usually rejecting a concept in the words "I'm out".
