"Rio 2" is a sequel to "Rio". In this film, Anne Hathaway voices Jewel and Jesse Eisenberg voices Blu, two macaws who now have children. The family of birds travel to the Amazon Rain Forest to rescue some blue macaws that have been injured. During their journey, Blu and Jewel meet various Amazonian wildlife and discover the horrors of deforestation in the Amazon.

The Rio Protocol was an agreement signed on January 9, 1942 that settled the long fought over boundary dispute between Ecuador and Peru. It was signed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ecuador agreed to forfeit its right to land around the Amazon River and Peru agreed to pull its troops from Ecuadorian territory.
However, it was not a long-lived success and skirmishes broke out on and off until 1995.
