Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is NOT a bone of the human body?

Answer: Trombone

The mandible is the lower jawbone and the sternum is the breastbone. The incus is one of the three small bones located in the middle ear. It's non-technical name is the anvil as it is an anvil-shaped small bone.
2. What is crockery?

Answer: China dishes or earthenware vessels

The collective noun for china dishes is a service of crockery. A group of crocodiles can be known as a bask, float, nest or congregation but not a crockery. "Crockford's Clerical Directory" lists the living Anglican clergy.
3. Which three colours feature on the national flags of Hungary, Bulgaria and Italy?

Answer: Red, white, and green

Other countries which have red, white, and green on their national flags include Algeria, Iran, Lebanon and Madagascar. Algeria's flag features a red star and crescent whereas a green cedar tree is in the centre of the Lebanese national flag. The cedar tree has been a symbol of Lebanon since biblical times.
4. Which country was the first to depict flying saucers on its postage stamps in 1975? (21 shillings is a clue)

Answer: Equatorial Guinea

The guinea was a former British gold coin, worth 21 shillings, and was taken out of circulation in 1813. The website 'The Stamp Collector's Guide to the Galaxy' shows a picture of the flying saucers on the Equatorial Guinea stamp of 1975.
5. 'Do You Know the Way to San Jose' was sung by Dionne Warwick. In which American state is San Jose?

Answer: California

San Jose is a city in west-central California and is noted for its fruit drying and canning industry. It is located in the fertile Santa Clara Valley. Part of the lyrics to the song include: "LA is a great big freeway. Put a hundred down and buy a car". Los Angeles is a city located in Southwest California.
6. Which British funnyman created the saluting, half-wit, Fred Scuttle?

Answer: Benny Hill

Benny Hill (Alfred Hawthorne Hill) had a British Number One single with 'Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West)' in November 1971. In 'The Benny Hill Show', he was supported by Henry McGee, Bob Todd and Jack Wright. The combination of his cheeky grin, saucy jokes and innuendos made him a likeable character.

His character of Fred Scuttle always began with the catchphrase 'Evening viewers', while his glasses were at the end of his nose and his cap always incorrectly positioned on his head. 'The Benny Hill Show' was successfully exported to the United States of America. Alas Benny died of coronary thrombosis on 19, April, 1992, aged 68 years old.
7. 'The Banana Box' was a 1971 play which featured a landlord called Rooksby. Which Situation Comedy series arose from this one-off play?

Answer: Rising Damp

In 'Rising Damp' Leonard Rossiter played a lecherous, tight-fisted landlord, called Rupert Rigsby, in a run-down boarding house. Alan Moore (Richard Beckinsale) characterised a long-haired medical student with Philip Smith (Don Warrington) being the son of an African chief. Miss Ruth Jones (Frances de la Tour) played a spinster of whom Rigsby had a great affection for. Alas, a turn of events always meant Rigsby's only companion would be his cat, Vienna.

The original name of Rooksby was changed to Rigsby by the programme's multi-talented creator and writer, Eric Chappell.
8. Solve the fractured Mediterranean island capital: KNICKERS HERE.

Answer: Nicosia

Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and lies on the River Pedieos. The northern part of the island is Turkish whereas the southern part is Greek. The Attila line (Green Line) cuts through the old town of Nicosia and divides the island.
9. In olden days, what was the name of a carnival or circus performer who bizarrely bites the head off a live chicken.

Answer: Geek

One school of thought implies the word 'geek' is a variant of the Scottish word of 'geck', meaning a fool or simpleton. Today it seems to mean somebody who is computer-obsessive, but I'm sure Funtrivia players don't come into that category.
10. How long was radio disc jockey and television entertainer Kenny Everett married to his wife, Lee 'Lady Lee' Middleton?

Answer: Over 10 years

Kenny Everett (Maurice Cole) was born on Christmas Day in 1944. He did indeed marry the singer Lee 'Lady Lee' Middleton between 1966-1979. Lee was the former girlfriend of Billy Fury. In 1979, Kenny decided to come out of the closet and tell the world he was homosexual. Lee then married her third husband, actor John Alkin, with Kenny insisting he was to be the best man. I'm not sure what his creations of Sid Snot, Captain Kremmen or hairdresser, Marcel Wave, would have made of all this. Hope you enjoyed the trivia.
