Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What kind of animal has more convolutions in its brain than a human being?

Answer: Sperm Whale

Scientists theorize that intelligence is not measured by the size of one's brain, but the amount of convolutions in one's brain. Convolutions are ridges in the brain that represents the cerebral cortex. This makes up for surface area. Dolphins and the sperm whale have two times as many convolutions in their brain than humans. Most theories of intelligence point to the sperm whale or dolphin being more intelligent than man.
2. How tall is the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington?

Answer: 605'

At the top of the Space Needle, there is a clear 360 degree view of Mt. Rainer, Vancouver, the Puget Sound, and the Olympic and Cascade Mountains, to name a few. It was built for the 1962 Seattle World Fair.
3. What was the name of the monkey that was the pet of the "Wonder Twins?"

Answer: Gleek

"Gleek" was a blue monkey that did not seem to serve much more of a purpose than comic relief. The "Wonder Twins" could not use their powers unless they were together. "Zan" was the brother and was confined to changing into a form of water (gas and ice were ok). Jayna was the sister and she could only become a type of animal.

They were from the planet "Exxor". "Gleek" usually did something foolish each episode.
4. What is the most commonly used method of meat preservation according to the "Food Policy and Nutrition Division" and the "Animal Production and Health Division"?

Answer: Drying meat in the open air

This is done in favorable climatic conditions but the meat is subject to spoilage, infestation, contamination, and natural predators. (I found this out months AFTER I became a vegetarian).
5. Who did the "Zachary Taylor/Millard Fillmore" ticket defeat to become the 13th president of the United States?

Answer: Lewis Cass

Millard Fillmore held the presidency from 1850-1853. Originally, the "Whig" party chose Zachary Taylor to be the presidential nominee and he was president from 1848-1850 until he passed away. Millard Fillmore, who was vice-president took over in the Oval Office. The Fillmore/Taylor ticket narrowly defeated the Democratic Michigan senator, Lewis Cass.
6. How high is the highest elevation point in the state of Florida?

Answer: 345 feet

Florida is not known for it mountainous terrain. Walton County, in the Panhandle of Florida is where "Britton Hill" stands at all of 345 feet above sea level. The flat terrain of Florida is one of the reasons that hurricanes can do so much damage.
7. In an abacus, what is the value for a bead in the upper deck and what is the value for a bead in the lower deck?

Answer: Upper 5 Lower 1

Placing an abacus flat on a table and manipulating the beads with your hand form basic calculations. It is still used in China and by shopkeepers in North American "Chinatowns".
8. What city did the show, "Too Close for Comfort" take place in?

Answer: San Francisco

This early 80's comedy was based on the British television series, "Keep it in the Family". It aired on November 11, 1980 and ran until September 15, 1983. It starred Ted Knight, Nancy Dussalt, and JM.J. Bullock. During the opening credits, the cameras panned over San Francisco showing most notably the Golden Gate Bridge.
9. "Smurfette" was created by "Papa Smurf" so the "Smurfs" could have a female in their village?

Answer: False

It was actually "Gargamel" who created "Smurfette" in order to lure the "Smurfs" to him, so he and his cat, "Azrael" could eat them. However, the overwhelming good nature of the "Smurfs" brought the innate "Smurfiness" from within her and she became one of them.

She was originally purple with dark hair. One other side note: there was one other female "Smurf" in the village named "Sassette Smurf". She was more of a tomboy.
10. On which date did "Coca-Cola" attempt to revise its formula and released, "New Coke?"

Answer: April 23, 1985

This marketing ploy lasted a grand total of 79 days as "Coca-Cola" re-released the original formula, now named "Coca-Cola Classic" on July 11, 1985. Two days after the announcement that "Coca-Cola Classic" would be returning, the company received 31,600 phone calls on their hotline.
