1. Gallipoli, the Anzac appearance in the WWI

Answer: 1915

Australia and New Zealand armies formed in 1885 and became known as Anzacs. The force landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 to capture the peninsula and open the area for the allies. This military action was the first one undertaken by the Anzacs. The action as such resulted in a huge loss of life, for all the countries involved.

This battle was the start of what is now celebrated annually on 25th April.
2. Arturo Toscanini conducts the first performance of Puccini's final opera "Turandot" in Milan

Answer: 1926

"Turandot" was first performed almost 18 months after Puccini's death. The performance was stopped by Toscanini during the third act because Puccini had died before completing it.
3. The first dog in the United States of America to become a guide dog was named Buddy

Answer: 1928

The first guide dog in the United States of America was named Buddy to indicate that he was going to be a good friend with his blind owner. Morris Frank was lucky enough to get Buddy as his guide dog in 1928.

The three-day blitz of Bath, England started on 25th April 1942 by 80 Luftwaffe aircraft from France. Bath at that time had not been subject to any bombing, and the belief of most people was that the bombing was meant to be for Bristol. The bombing resulted in 417 people killed, over 1,000 people injured, more than 19,000 buildings bomb damaged with many destroyed, including houses and churches. What could be rebuilt has been; otherwise it has been repurposed.

Portugal had its first free election since 1925 on 25th April 1975, exactly one year after the Carnation Revolution. The Portuguese people turn out en masse to vote with 92% voting in the election. The election was won by the Socialist Party.
9. Dan-Air Flight 1008 plane crash in Tenerife, Canary Islands

Answer: 1980

International flight from Manchester to Tenerife by Danish Airways resulted in a crash into Mount La Esperanza with all lives on board were killed (146 passengers and 8 crew).

On 25rh April 1993 Russian voters had a four-part referendum. The four questions were:
1. Do you have confidence in the President of the Russian Federation, B. N. Yeltsin?
2. Do you support the economic and social policy that has been conducted since 1992 by the President and Government of the Russian Federation?
3. Should there be early elections for the President of the Russian Federation?
4. Should there be early elections for the People's Deputies of the Russian Federation?
Even though the voting was done, the Constitutional Court ruled that the president needed two of the four points, namely points one and two.

It was required that 50% of the votes (as opposed to 50% of the possible number of votes) were achieved on the first two points. It was also held that 50% of the possible votes on the other two points was required; 50% on #3 was not met.
