After the surrender, there was no damage to his home from battle, but his parlor was stripped of furniture and any other things that was considered a souvenir of the surrender.

Camp Ford is located northwest of Tyler, Texas. It was the largest Confederate prison camp west of the Mississippi. The camp was opened in August of 1863 and remained open until May 19, 1865. The prison held the most troops in July of 1864.

Jackson was burned both in May and July of 1863.

The Parrott gun was invented by and named for Robert P. Parrott.

The Capture of Island No. 10, or New Madrid, on the Missippi was the first major victory of combined land-based and water-based forces by the Union. The Federals suffered no casualties in the taking of the island.

Maj. General Benjamin Butler defeated Robert E. Lee and Gen. Richard S. Ewell. There was a total of 4,430 casualties suffered by both sides, most of which were Federal. Union General Burnham was killed in the battle.
