1. The battle of Mons Graupius (84)?

Answer: Caledonii v Romans

The Caledonian Chief, Calgacus, was slain in the battle, won by the Romans under Julius Agricola. The Caledonii were a Pictish tribe, and were probably in alliance with the Vacomagi and Taexali. The location of the battle is unknown, possibly near the Iron age fort of Bennachie, with a Roman marching camp of Durno nearby.
2. The battle of Nechtansmere (685)?

Answer: Angles v Picts

King Ecgfrith of Northumbria was killed and lost to Brudei, King of the Picts, near what is now Letham north of Dundee.
3. The battle of Carham (1018)?

Answer: Scots v Northumbrians

This was forght near Roxburgh. King Malcolm II of Scotland beat Earl Uhtred of Bamburgh.
4. The battle of Largs (1263)?

Answer: Scots v Vikings

Haakon IV of Norway's fleet attacked the Scots under Alexander III. Haakon retreated back to the Western Isles, but died on the way back.
5. The battle of The Pass of Brander (1307)?

Answer: MacDougalls v Scots

At the head of Loch Awe, some Campbells and Robert the Bruce's Army beat John of Lorn, who supported Edward II. The MacDougalls tried to set an ambush, but were ambushed themselves by James Douglas.
6. The Battle of Bannockburn (1314).

Answer: English v Scots

Robert the Bruce besieged Stirling Castle, whose English governor intended to surrender on 24th June if he was not relieved. Edward II of England appeared on that date to help, but was defeated.

Near Inverurie, Alexander Earl of Mar led the Royalists in the defeat of Donald MacDonald, Lord of the Isles, and sent him packing.
8. The Battle of Auldearn (1645)?

Answer: Covenanters v Royalists

Sir John Hurry and his Covenanters laid a trap for the Royalists under James Graham Marquis of Montrose. Victory went to Montrose at this village near Nairn.
9. The Second Battle of Dunbar (1650)?

Answer: Parliamentarians v Scots

23,000 Scots were going to attack the English on the 1st September, but the kirk forbid David Leslie to break the Sabbath. Leslie settled down for a siege, then when it became apparent that the English were going to escape by sea, leslie attacked the 11,000 strong force under Oliver Cromwell on the morning of the 3rd. By noon Cromwell had won what was perhaps the most brilliant victory in his career. (The first Battle of Dunbar was fought in 1296, when the Scots were defeated by King Edward I of England).
10. The Battle of Culloden (1746)?

Answer: Government v Jacobites

On the 16th of April, William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland beat a force of Jacobites, lead by Prince Charles Edward Stuart. More Scots fought alongside Cumberland than with Stuart.
