LG James Longstreet graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1842, where he ranked 60th in a class of 62.

Gen Robert E Lee was in command of the whole Confederate Army, known as the "Army of Northern Virginia, at the Battle of Gettysburg.

LG Richard S Ewell commanded the Confederate Second Corps at the Battle of Gettysburg.

LG Ambrose P Hill was in command of the Confederate Third Corps during the Battle of Gettysburg.

Answer: Berdan's 2nd United States Sharpshooters

Berdan's 2nd United States Sharpshooters fired on Oats' men as they advanced, and not wanting to let the Union men get in his rear, Oates ordered his men to follow them up over Big Round Top.

Union Cavalry covered and fought over the ground crossed by Oats' Alabamians, but not until the next day.

Cows were running loose in the area. Men in Union 4th Maine killed and cooked one while on Devil's Den, and Union Gen Henry Hunt was almost run down by the cows trying to return to his horse after inspecting artillery on Devil's Den.

Union Gen John Sedgwick's 6th Corps would be positioned in behind Big and Little Round Top, but at the time of the movement of Oats' men. Many of the 6th Corps were still arriving at Gettysburg from a 33 mile forced march when the fighting on Little Round Top started.

BG Richard B Garnett was killed somewhere within about 20 yards of the Union line. His body was never identified. However, some years later Garnett's sword was located in a Baltimore pawn shop.

BG James L Kemper was wounded and fell on the field. He was captured by Union troops, but was rescued by men of the 1st Virginia and taken back to the Confederate line. He lived until 7 April 1895.

BG Lewis A Armistead was wounded after crossing into Union lines. The wounds weren't considered to be mortal, however he died at the George Spangler farm on 5 July 1863.

Gen James H Lane commanded a brigade in MG Isaac R Trimble's Division and wasn't part of Pickett's Division. He had his horse shot out from under him and was wounded in the charge.
