Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The First Edition of Star Trek, The Customizable Card Game appeared in 1994. In what year did Decipher release the Second Edition set?

Answer: 2002

The last set for Second Edition was released in 2007. Overall there were 30 First Edition sets and 16 Second Edition sets, plus numerous foil and special edition cards. The player community has kept the game alive through virtual cards for the last 3 years.
2. All cards in this set (and forward) are arranged alphabetically by card type, and then numbered by set, rarity, and card number. What card had collector number (1 U 1) in the set?

Answer: A Living Death

This is an uncommon dilemma card usable only on planet missions. (1 U 1) means it is part of the first set, is uncommon in rarity, and is the first card in the set. Decipher decided to reinvent the dilemma card with Second Edition, introducing the dilemma pile mechanic, in which players to have all of their dilemmas in one stack which can be recycled, instead of placed under missions, and then placed out of play, as in First Edition.
3. Many major lore characters from all affiliations have more than 1 card in various sets. Normally this coincided with the release of pre-made starter decks. Which of the following is the Rare version of Jean Luc Picard in this set?

Answer: Jean Luc Picard (Argo Pilot)

This card image is drawn from the movie Star Trek: Nemesis. Jean Luc Picard (Explorer) does appear in this set as an S rarity card, meaning he only appears in Federation Next Generation starter decks. Locutus of Borg does appear in the Call to Arms set, but is not named Jean Luc Picard.
4. Decipher also changed how affiliations work in Second Edition. You must play a headquarters card as part of your missions (with the exception of Voyager, which is an unique case), and this card has specific reporting requirements. Which of the following is not a playable affiliation in the Second Edition set?

Answer: Starfleet

Starfleet was added to the game in the To Boldly Go expansion. This means that there is now one major Federation affiliation, but broken down by Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation, Voyager, and Original Series reporting icons.
5. In Second Edition, Decipher completely reworked the turn based system of First Edition. You now get 7 counters to spend every turn (though certain cards allow for more). How much does the card U.S.S. Enterprise-E (Federation Envoy) cost to play?

Answer: 7

Almost all of the ships in the game cost more than personnel to play, and the more powerful ones cost the full 7 you are allotted per turn.
6. Personnel are the most important part of any Star Trek story. The same is true of this game. Because this is an introductory set many of the major characters from Deep Space Nine and The Next Generation appeared. Which of these personnel does not have a personnel card in this set?

Answer: Ezri Dax

One other change Decipher made in Second Edition is the persona system. Every unique personnel card has their name and then a title in parentheses. This means you cannot have multiple personnel in play with the same name, even if the title is different. Ezri has an unique play mechanic in that she cannot be in play at the same time you control any Jadzia Dax. Ezri Dax does appear in the Energize set.
7. Here is an easy one for you. Since this is a card game, we need cards. There are 4 different rarity of cards in this set, common, uncommon, rare, and starter, spread out over 7 card types, and 6 different affiliations (not counting the 2 sub affiliations for Federation). How many total cards appear in this set?

Answer: 415

This is a much larger set due to introducing all the affiliations and having more missions, dilemmas, events, and interrupts than normal.
8. The easiest way to win a game of Star Trek Second Edition is to score 100 points. The easiest way to score points is to complete planet missions. Every mission has unique requirements for completion and award points based on how difficult the mission is. What are the requirements to complete the planet mission Geological Survey?

Answer: Geology, Physics, Science, and Cunning > 30

This was a commonly used planet mission with easily attainable requirements, worth 30 points. One thing Decipher got away from that was common in First Edition was the ability to solve missions with just one personnel.
9. Every personnel card in the game has at least one skill assigned to it. Many have lore text such as a quote or information about the personnel depicted on them. One other mechanic introduced is the ability of certain cards to do specific things during phases of the game. Which of these personnel does not have an Order skill on their card?

Answer: Martok (Soldier of the Empire)

Martok does have a skill that is active when he is present with others however. Other common examples are the ability to gain skills while facing dilemmas or to stop themselves from facing dilemmas. These skills do not cost turn counters and may have other requirements to use.
10. Many of the more noteworthy personnel cards have numerous skills on them. The Bajoran affiliation has several powerful cards in Second Edition. Which of the following personnel has the skill set: Anthropology, Archaeology, 2 Diplomacy, 2 Honor, 2 Leadership, plus has an effect skill when other personnel of his or her location affiliation are played at his or her location?

Answer: Benjamin Sisko (The Emissary of the Prophets)

This is the Bajoran affiliation version of Benjamin Sisko, which costs 5 to play. He has the ability to allow you to discard a card from hand when you play a non-Treachery Bajoran at his location, and only once per turn.
