Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Tenescowri do what unsavory thing to their victims?

Answer: Eat them

When the Tenescowri get to Capustan, they kill and eat its prince, Jelarkan. Their leader Anaster is quick to tell Itkovian that they killed Jelarkan first, because they're not so cruel as to cook someone alive. Because of rampant cannibalism, peasant starvation, and a few other cruel practices, Rake thinks that the Pannion Domin is ultimately unsustainable. I'm inclined to agree with him.
2. Does Paran want to legitimize the House of Chains?

Answer: Yes

As Master of the Deck, he can choose whether or not to add the Crippled God's prospective House. Almost everyone, including Hood, wants him to deny the request, but Paran realizes that if he adds the House of Chains, the Crippled God will have to play by the Deck's rules.

As the fourth book in the series is called "House of Chains", Paran follows his own will and allows the creation of a new House.
3. In "Deadhouse Gates", Heboric touches the jade desert statue. What is revealed in "Memories of Ice" to have happened then?

Answer: Fener was thrown out of his realm.

Heboric's hands were severed prior to the events of the books. They were claimed by his god, Fener. When Heboric touches the statue, it activates the Warren of Chaos, causing his hands to push war god Fener out of his warren into the human world, where he has no power.

Itkovian and his Grey Swords now have no god to serve, so they pledge their allegiance to the wolf gods Togg and Fanderay.
4. Who betrays Brukhalian to the Pannion Domin?

Answer: Rath'Fener

Brukhalian dies as a result. For his betrayal, Rath'Fener endures the same punishment as Heboric once did: his hands are severed. Fener was supposed to claim his hands, but as Fener has been cast out of his realm, something unknown takes them.
5. What happens when Caladan Brood gives Rath'Burn his hammer?

Answer: Its weight breaks her arms.

She demands it from him because he refuses to use it to break the Crippled God's chains. Since she is Burn's priestess on the Mask Council, Rath'Burn thinks she has a right to wield it. When he gives it over, she can't hold it and her arms snap. Since she didn't know that would happen, Brood heals her.
6. What happens to Anaster when he is captured?

Answer: His emotions are removed.

Anaster thrives on his grief and pain. He wants to be killed when captured, but Rake won't allow it. When a Shield Anvil takes away his suffering, nothing is left of his personality, and Anaster becomes a mere shell until another soul takes up residence inside him at the end of the book.
7. Kallor kills which character near the end of "Memories of Ice"?

Answer: Whiskeyjack

Whiskeyjack was injured in a battle in "Gardens of the Moon", and that injury costs him his life here when his leg collapses while he fights Kallor. Kallor betrays Whiskeyjack and joins the Crippled God.
8. Where does Anomander Rake hide Moon's Spawn?

Answer: Beneath the sea

Some characters thought Rake was dead because he and Moon's Spawn vanished. Instead, Rake only hid the fortress and brings it out to end the battle at Coral by crashing into the buildings. The dead Bridgeburners are interred in Moon's Spawn, which sinks into the sea.
9. Toc dies and comes back in Anaster's body. What is his new title?

Answer: Mortal Sword

Toc had been holding the wolf god Togg inside himself. Togg is released and able to regain his throne with Fanderay when Toc dies. Toc's soul then goes into Anaster's body, and he becomes the Mortal Sword of Togg and Fanderay. A Mortal Sword is a god's defender and often takes charge of the military.

Steel Inquisitors are found in Brandon Sanderson's "Mistborn" series.
10. In the epilogue of "Memories of Ice", Duiker starts telling the characters about what event from "Deadhouse Gates"?

Answer: The Chain of Dogs

Erikson originally intended "Memories of Ice" to follow "Gardens of the Moon", but when he lost the initial draft of "Memories", he began writing "Deadhouse Gates" as the second book. He said this change let him connect the books in a way he hadn't intended, including in this final scene with Duiker as the historian starts to describe Coltaine's march with the Malazan refugees.
