Otataral ore prevents and negates magic. The otataral doesn't kill her, though--it merely prevents her from escaping into a warren when Degaroth come and tear her apart. Interestingly, in her dying thoughts, Poliel, Mistress of Pestilence, reveals that she wanted to heal Burn, and spreading disease that killed humans was her way of doing that.

Torahaval was about to become another of Poliel's lovers, which would have eventually killed her. While she severed most of the links between herself and her brother, Quick Ben is still able to rescue her. Quick Ben's full name is Ben Adaephon Delat.

Answer: Felisin Younger

Quite appropriately, the girl named after Felisin Paran, the prior Sha'ik Reborn, is the new Sha'ik. However, she doesn't seem to do much. She grows fat from eating whatever she wants and has sex with whomever she pleases. Others see her existence as a perversion of who Sha'ik should be and Kulat even thinks she may be a servant in the next life to balance being catered to in this life (though I should point out that she was circumcised against her will in "House of Chains", so she's had plenty of horror in her life).

Answer: Fight Emperor Rhulad

All challengers are treated as guests and must face the Emperor in single combat, with no penalties no matter who wins. Karsa accepts, but we don't see the duel in this book. Samar thinks he's a fool to accept.

Answer: House of War

Fiddler likes playing games with this deck and finds cards belonging to High House War. The Lords of War are represented by two wolves, male and female, who are Togg and Fanderay. As the House of War doesn't show up in glossaries, it's possible that only Fiddler's deck has this House.

The previous leader, Topper, disappeared inside the Imperial Warren, leaving the post open. Kalam instead decides to flee the Malazan Empire with Tavore, who is betrayed by Laseen, and T'amber.

Answer: T'amber

T'amber is Tavore's aide and lover. Laseen relieves Tavore of command and sends assassins after her, which T'amber and Kalam help Tavore escape. T'amber dies in the fight. At the end of the book, it's revealed that T'amber is actually the Elder Goddess Eres'al in disguise.

Answer: A poisoned arrow

To kill Kalam, Pearl uses what's considered a despicable method: an arrow coated with a particular venom that makes death slow and painful. Apsalar then painfully kills Pearl for the way he attacked Kalam. Kalam gets the last laugh: Pearl takes Kalam's otataral knives, which make it impossible for him to escape death by entering a warren.

As Kalam lies nearly dead after Pearl's attack, Shadowthrone has him taken into the Deadhouse.

Answer: Soldiers who survived the siege of Y'Ghatan

A group of soldiers and civilians narrowly escape the fiery conflagration of Y'Ghatan through the tunnels under the city. Tavore calls them Bonehunters when she sees the remnants of the army return. The Bonehunters are seen as the successors to the Bridgeburners, who ascended in "Memories of Ice".
