I don't remember what happened exactly, but since he was mostly a droid, he had to help blow up the ship. Luke was going to have everyone escape, except for maybe Callista, but the others had their own ideas. The end result: everyone gets to be together, but two are dead (or something like it) and Callista, now lacking her Jedi powers goes away and never returns.

I haven't read that book yet, so I can't really tell you much, but I do know that it doesn't work out but they stay friends. Gaeriel has the Bakuran Fleet help the New Republis in the Corellian Trilogy and ends up pushing the self-destruct button on her ship and being blown to tiny bits. She leaves behind a daughter, who, I assume, is from a previous husband.
