Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The very first "Carry On" film, "Carry On Sergeant" looked at the trials and tribulations of National Service. Which future "Bond" Girl starred as Mary Sage, the new wife of Charlie (Bob Monkhouse) who followed to work in the canteen?

Answer: Shirley Eaton

Shirley Eaton starred in all of "Carry On Sergeant", "Carry On Nurse" and "Carry On Constable" before making her big time Hollywood appearance as Jill Masterson in "Goldfinger" in 1964. Since then, she made only a few more films before choosing to retire in the late 1960s.
2. One of the lesser known "Carry On" films was "Carry On Regardless", featuring the cast as odd jobbers at the Helping Hands Agency. Which actress, whose voice is easily recognisable, appeared as Penny Panting, a client supposedly wanting a babysitter?

Answer: Fenella Fieldling

In "Carry On Regardless", Fielding's character booked a babysitter only for him to discover that she actually wanted someone to make her husband jealous. She was later to appear as Kenneth Williams' gothic sister in "Carry On Screaming".
3. British comedian Frankie Howerd appeared in only two films in the series. What were the two films?

Answer: "Carry On Up the Jungle" and "Carry On Doctor"

In "Carry On Doctor" (1967), Howerd appeared as Francis Bigger, a charlatan faith healer rushed to hospital following an accident. The film concerns the exploits of both patients and staff in on hospital. Following blackmail and treachery by the head doctor and the matron against another doctor, the patients decide to take justice into their own hands.

In "Carry On Up the Jungle", Howerd portrayed Doctor Inigo Tinkle, bird watcher and upper class socialite searching for the famous "Oozolum Bird" on a group trek through Africa.

The group encounters a Tarzan-like character, "Ug", and eventually ends up in the clutches of the "luvvy-Duvvies", an all-female tribe looking for white men to increase their population. Frankie Howerd is perhaps most famous for hs starring role in the Roman-set television comedy, "Up Pompeii".
4. Who appeared as Midshipman Albert Poop-Decker in "Carry On Jack"?

Answer: Bernard Cribbins

Bernard Cribbins appeared in 3 "Carry On" films - he later appeared in "Carry On Spying" and "Carry On Columbus".
5. In "Carry On Henry", Queen Marie of Normady is unable to keep Henry in her bed as a result of her garlic habit. She does, however, find comfort elsewhere. Which courtier, played by Charles Hawtrey, is tortured for a confession of adultery by Kenneth William's Thomas Cromwell?

Answer: Sir Roger Delodgerly

The relationship of Sir Roger DeLodgerly, the King's official food taster, and Queen Marie is probably a lose parody on the fact that at least two of Henry VIII's wives were accused of adultery.
Sir Rodney Ffing (Sid James) and Lord Darcy de Pue (Jim Dale) were British nobility featured as the Black Fingernail and his sidekick in "Carry On Don't Lose Your Head". Lord Hampton of Wick was a courtier hired to fake a kidnapping played by Kenneth Connor in "Carry On Henry".
6. In "Carry On Behind", who provided the voice of the dirty-mouthed Mynah Bird?

Answer: Gerald Thomas

Gerald Thomas directed all 31 "Carry On" films as well as a large number of other British comedies between the 1950s and 1980s, including "What A Carve Up!" and "The Big Job". As well as lending his voice to the Mynah bird in "Carry On Behind", Thomas also provided the voice of Oddbod Junior, a Frankenstein-style monster in "Carry On Screaming".
7. Which "Carry On" film, released in 1965, featured Angela Douglas singing "This is the Night for Love" and has been labelled as his favourite of the films by Sid James?

Answer: Carry on Cowboy

Sid James played the Rumpo Kid, an outlaw cowboy who settled in Stodge City in the American West. The film follows the attempts of Marshall P. Knut, a British Sanitation and Garbage Dispotal Engineer (mistaken for a US Peace Marshall) to clean up Stodge City and win the affections of Annie Oakley, a young woman looking to avenge her father's death.
8. In which town was the beauty contest held in "Carry On Girls"?

Answer: Fircombe

Fircombe is the seaside town that is losing visitors fast. Sid James' character attempts to bring people back with a beauty contest.
9. In which film did Jim Dale perform his own stunts involving, a hammock and a trolley and a flight of stairs, breaking his arm and causing himself lasting back problems in the process?

Answer: Carry On Again Doctor

Dale's character, Dr Nookie, at one point descends the stairs on a medical trolley whilst drunk and later attempts (and fails) to jump into a hammock at a medical mission on the Beatific Islands. Jim Dale requested that he be allowed to do the stunts himself, a request which was allowed given the tiny budget each "Carry On" film commanded.
10. In "Carry On Dick", what pseudonym was Kenneth Williams' character given when he entered the tavern to question the locals about Big Dick?

Answer: Dandy Desmond

Kenneth Williams played Desmond Fancey, a bumbling Captain of the Bow street Runners, the early police force looking for Dick Turpin. His sidekick, Sergeant Jock Strap (Jack Douglas), introduces him as Dandy Desmond at the tavern.
