Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does Nikkabrik appeal to, when he entices Caspian to call on the dark magic for help in his fight?

Answer: Caspian's desire for Miraz's blood

The thing that cinches it, for the bird-witch and evil creature that Nikkabrik called forth, is Caspian's hesitant question: "And you can... guarantee Miraz's death?"
The bird-witch bows. "And more." Then she says, "Let the circle be drawn!" and Caspian is drawn to where he never wanted to go. His weakness in the moment of temptation almost causes a horrific catastrophe.
2. Who shoves Caspian out of the reach of the ice-bound White Witch?

Answer: Peter

Peter runs into the room, throws Caspian aside, and yells at the White Witch, "Get away from him!" However, she capitalizes on his weaknesses as well and nearly draws him in. "You know you can't do this alone... come on. Just one drop [of Adam's blood]." Peter lowers his sword slowly, but before he has a chance to slit his hand, the White Witch is stabbed in the back.

She fades away and the ice wall crumbles to reveal Edmund, with his sword stuck in the ice, face contorted from the effort. "I know," he says to Peter, "You had it sorted." (He's referring to the earlier fight in the subway station, when Edmund had jumped in the fray only to be rebuked by Peter later.)
3. What does Miraz call Edmund, that causes him to correct the Telmarine king?

Answer: Prince Edmund

When Edmund, the centuar and the giant arrive with the letter from Peter, they are received mockingly. Edmund maintains his dignity throughout this scene and when Miraz calls him Prince Edmund, he corrects him. "It's King, actually. Just King, though. Peter's the High King." And then, to Miraz's look of consternation, "I know. It's confusing."
4. Why does Miraz accept Peter's offer to duel, though he could have easily wiped out the Narnian army?

Answer: Because of the opinion of his people

Miraz agrees to duel, only to look good in the eyes of his people. Peter turns out to be better than he had figured on - or at least, Miraz is worse than he thought. The fight between them is arguably one of the most tense parts of the movie.
5. Susan is wearing long sleeves when she confronts Miraz's soldiers, who set out after her and Lucy.

Answer: False

Susan's wearing three-quarter chain mail sleeves.

Lucy and Susan make it perhaps halfway before they're trailed. Susan sends Lucy off by herself and tries to hold off the soldiers, but the last one nearly does her in. She is saved by Caspian, who evidently followed her. "You sure you don't need that horn?" Caspian asks as he swings her up onto his horse. He's referring to earlier, as he was sending the two girls out. Caspian had offered her the horn she had been given by Father Christmas, but she refused and told him to keep it. "You might need to call me again," she said as she and Lucy galloped away.
6. When Peter takes a break from the duel between him and Miraz, what despondent question of his causes Edmund to jerk his dislocated arm back into socket with force that makes Peter groan?

Answer: "I wonder what happens in the real world if you die here?"

This quote is said during a short break in the fighting, while Edmund is tending to Peter's wounds. Peter is sure he's going to die in the fight between he and Miraz. The High King is wondering aloud what would happen to him in England if Miraz kills him in their duel.

Miraz nearly kills him several times, and when Peter gets the chance to kill him, he allows him a second chance, against Edmund's advice: "Now's not the time for chivalry, Peter!" Miraz, taking advantage of Peter's chivalry, comes back and nearly stabs Peter from behind.
7. Why doesn't Caspian kill Miraz, when offered the opportunity by Peter?

Answer: Because he refuses to become like Miraz

Caspian ends up thrusting Peter's offered sword into the ground, instead of killing Miraz. "Maybe you do have the makings of a Telmarine king," Miraz says right before Caspian lunges. After stabbing the sword into the ground, Caspian looks up and shakes his head. "Not one like you." Then, through clenched teeth: "Keep your life. But I am giving the Narnians back their kingdom."
Moments later Miraz is assassinated by one of his officers. The assassin makes it look like he was slain by an arrow shot from a Narnian bow and uses this as an excuse to charge the Narnians.
8. When Lucy finds Aslan, he tells her that she will have to help him. "Oh, I wish I were braver," she mumbles in reply. His answer? "If you were any braver, you'd be a _____" What?

Answer: Lioness

In this statement, Aslan reveals to Lucy that he trusts her, even though she failed him earlier. It's a bit of a reinstatement for her, although it's hard to see her as doing anything wrong. Later, she and Aslan face the entire Telmarine army...Lucy armed merely with the small dagger she'd gotten from Father Christmas.

As soon as their conversation is over, Aslan calls forth the river god and awakens the trees, two entities which help the Narnians defeat the Telmarines.
9. What is Reepicheep's initial reaction, after he realizes that his tail is gone?

Answer: Embarrassment

Reepicheep is "completely out of countenance" to appear before Aslan in "this unseemly fashion" - that is, without his tail, which he apparently lost in battle. He then launches into a long explanation of why a tail is important ("A tail is the honor and glory of a mouse," he tells Aslan).

When Reepicheep's mice discover that his tail is gone, they move to cut off their own, saying "We will not bear an honor denied to our chief."
Aslan chuckles and tells Reepicheep, "not for the sake of your honor, but for the love of your people" and the mouse's tail is restored.
10. High King Peter, the Magnificent, and Queen Susan, the Gentle, will not be seen in Narnia again until the Last Battle draws them to Aslan's Land. Why are they barred entrance to Narnia after this second trip?

Answer: Because they have learned what they can from Narnia

It is a sad thing as Aslan walks with Peter and Susan in Caspian's castle and explains to them that they won't be coming back. Lucy asks why; "Have they done something wrong?"
"Quite the opposite, dear one." Aslan says, and explains. The movie ends on a rather sad note because of this, but the directors added one of my favorite lines at the end, to lighten the tone a bit. It is spoken by Edmund, who, after frantically searching for his pack, asks the others, "Don't you think there's any way we can get back? I've left my new torch in Narnia!"

This was a wonderful movie. I don't think it can be compared with the book, as they are both so different and both amazing in different ways. I love the spiritual symbolism; there is so much to learn from this movie (i.e. how Peter's pride brought the death of much of his army, how Lucy's fear to follow Aslan led to significant delays, and how trusting Aslan was so much better than trusting themselves).

I was ecstatic to watch this movie, that I see as one full of hope, in this fairly hopeless world. It made me smile to see this movie as one that points UP - to High King Jesus, the Magnificent.
