Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lemony Snicket thought that it was a good idea to make his books into a movie, and he wanted them to be as close to the actual events as possible.

Answer: False

Based on what he and Brad Silberling say later, this is all clearly a joke, but Mr. Snicket didn't understand why anyone would want to see such a horrible movie. He thought that the "Happiest Elf" would make much better entertainment.
2. How does Brad Silberling say he made this film?

Answer: By accident

Mr. Snicket demanded to know why Brad Silberling would make such a depressing film. When he said it was by accident, Mr. Snicket didn't believe him, of course. He wondered how Brad Silberling "accidentally" happened to have actors in front of cameras reciting prewritten dialogue.
3. What does Mr. Snicket propose the audience buy instead of watching the movie?

Answer: A basket of kittens

He does gush over how charming "The Littlest Elf" is, but he does say a basket of kittens is a cheap and delightful way to spend a day. He suggests that instead of watching the movie, everyone should go out and buy a basket of kittens.
4. What does Mr. Snicket accuse Brad Silberling of, when Silberling describes Mr. Poe?

Answer: Not having read the books

Brad says that he saw Mr. Poe as being quite competent and well read, to which Mr. Snicket says that Mr. Poe is quite the opposite. He said that he doesn't think Brad Silberling read his books at all.
5. Beginning a running gag, what type of film does Brad Silberling say they decided to make?

Answer: A short

After any given section, like the children being taken away from Count Olaf or meeting Montgomery Montgomery, Brad Silberling says that they decided to end the film there. But then it doesn't end and he suddenly "remembers" that they filmed more of the story.
6. Brad Silberling constantly lies about the changes he made to Lemony Snicket's books.

Answer: True

He frequently lies about changing unpleasant events into more cheerful events. This is quite vexing to Mr. Snicket, who had hoped that the Hollywood practice of completely rewriting books, to be more cheerful, would have been the case with his books.
7. What does Silberling say about Emily Browning's acting abilities during the train scene?

Answer: "She's a good actress, not this good."

Brad Silberling says this when the children are trapped in the car, and Violet looks up and realises a train is coming. He claims that for the sake of realism, he actually locked the children in a car on train tracks and what we see from them is true fear and ingenuity.
8. When Lemony Snicket believes the film is finally over, what does he ask?

Answer: To be un-handcuffed and allowed to leave

He claims that he was being held against his will in front of the screen, and mentions a few times that he wishes to be unchained so he can leave. He said that he was chained to a chair and banging on the door for someone to rescue him, although the audience couldn't see this.
9. What does Mr. Snicket say about Sunny, when Aunt Josephine's house falls apart?

Answer: She seems oddly still

To which Brad Silberling replies that the Hoffman twins had the ability to act like bags of flour.
10. Whenever a new actor or actress appears on screen, what does Lemony Snicket say about them?

Answer: Another actor/actress who has ruined their career.

Mr. Snicket doesn't understand why such talented people would purposely ruin their careers by appearing in such a horrid film. Brad Silberling says that all actors are sadists, so that's why they elected to be a part of the movie that was sure to be their downfall.
