"But in the middle of the night, Miss Clavel said, 'Something is not right!' (from the book "Madeline")." Poor Madeline had a bad appendix. Luckily, it was removed quickly and she was left with a great scar. While at the hospital, she was also able to visit Lady Covington.

Leopold was actually trying to kidnap Pepito so he could hold him for ransom. His partners in crime were the clowns from the circus, Les Idiots.

The Spanish Ambassador moved in next door, with his wife and son Pepito. The Liberian and Indian ambassadors were scared away by Pepito. In the end, The Uzbekistani Ambassador let the girls keep the school.

Pepito was riding his Vespa in the courtyard. Vicki also said he was "perfectly Elvis!". Aggie said Pepito was "sort of handsome". Leopold always called them idiots and they would get mad because that was just their stage name. Their job was to distract Pepito's parents at the circus so Leopold could nab Pepito.

Genevieve is a dog. After she saved Madeline, the girls wanted to keep her, but pets were not allowed at the school. Miss Clavel relented, but Lord Cucuface (Covington) threw Genevieve out when he found her in the garden shed.

Madeline accidentally called him Cucuface to his face when he came late at night to give Miss Clavel letters to the girls' parents, telling them the school was closing. Even Helene called him Cucuface.

"Beware! Beware of what?" was Aggie's question. The girls were discussing this when Miss Clavel came in with an invitation to Pepito's birthday party. Many of the girls were afraid to go because of the message in Madeline's notebook, but Madeline was not going to be frightened by Pepito and insisted they were going.

The clowns left the knives from their act in the back of the truck so Pepito and Madeline were able to cut their ropes. Then Madeline found the motorcycle, Pepito started it with Madeline's hairpin and they burst out when Les Idiots opened the back doors. They led Leopold and the clowns on a merry chase and escaped when Miss Clavel forced the truck into a pond with her car.
