Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 'Secret Window' Mort Rainey is an author, but he also turns out to be the killer. Who is his alter ego?

Answer: John Shooter

John Shooter is Mort's alter ego, and even though he is just another part of Mort, we see him as a completely seperate person. This makes the viewer think that he is actually a different person, which is a very clever thing to do.
2. In the film 'From Hell', Johnny's character is a detective who says that he can see the future. Who does he fall in love with (who he shouldn't have)?

Answer: Mary Kelly

Johnny Depp's character falls for a whore named Mary Kelly. Even though she's a prostitute, Inspector Abberline sees something else in her. Maybe he falls for her long red hair. He falls for her when he has to question her about the murders of her friends. Though they only ever get to kiss, you can tell that he likes her.
3. 'The Ninth Gate' is a film about the Devil. Johnny's character is a rare book dealer called Dean Corso. He is asked to find two other copies of a book. What is the book?

Answer: The Nine Gates of the Kingdom of Shadows

He is asked to find the books by one Boris Balkan, who is a rare book collector. He wants Corso to find the other two books to find out the authenticity of his. Corso must do this by traveling to Paris and Madrid. This book is what the story is based around, and it is supposed to call the Devil. The title of the book gives you a feel of darkness.
4. At the beginning of the film 'The Libertine' Johnny Depp's character, the Earl of Rochester, has been bannished to the country. Why has he been banished?

Answer: for writing an explicit poem about the King

This is important to the film because it shows what the Earl is like. We find out why he's been bannished when he arrives in London, and is talking to his friends in the pub. He isn't too happy with the King, because being banished means he misses all the good plays. The poem that offends the king contains foul language and insults his reign.
5. In the amazing film 'Chocolat' Johnny plays an Irish River Rat named Roux. The first time he enters the village he comes with a little girl, what does she say he is to her?

Answer: her pony

When you first see Roux and the little girl together you assume that he is her father or uncle, but not her pony. During the film you do not find out why the little girl calls him this or whether they are any relation at all.
6. In the film 'Cry Baby' Johnny plays a young lad named Wade 'Cry Baby' Walker, who falls in love with Allison Vernon-Williams. What is the difference between Allison and Cry Baby?

Answer: She's a square and he's a drape.

Because Allison's a square and Cry Baby's a drape, they shouldn't be hanging around with each other or even acknowledging each other. However while Cry Baby and Allison are having jabs, he notices her and it goes from there. The rest of the story is based around them.
7. In Tim Burton's 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', Johnny plays the factory owner Willy Wonka, a man who hasn't had contact with people for along time. During the film Mike Teavee criticizes Willy Wonka, about a lot of things. What does Willy say that Mike does?

Answer: mumble

During the film Mike Teavee shows his dislike for Willy Wonka and his factory by criticizing them. He says things like 'If you hate gum so much, why do you make them?' This gets on Wonka's nerves and he says 'You should stop mumbling, because it's starting to bum me out.'
8. In the extremly weird film 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' Johnny plays an oddball journalist. What drug do they take before entering the Bazooko Circus?

Answer: ether

They take ether because the other drug that they had taken wasn't working. However later on in the Bazooko circus the ether starts to wear off on Dr Gonzo. We find out what drugs can do to you throughout the film, and this is one of the big scenes about the effects of drugs.
9. The film 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' is set in a little town in America. What is the name of the town?

Answer: Endora

Gilbert isn't too fond of his home town, as nothing ever really happens there. He says that living in Endora is like dancing to no music.
10. The film 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico' is about a CIA agent named Sands, played by Johnny Depp. After Sands loses his eyes, he's in a gun fight with a guy who was waiting for him. Sands gets shot in the arm, what does he do in retalliation?

Answer: He spins around and shoots the guy in the head.

Sands is blinded by the Barillo, because he's seen to much. This scene is the first time we see him after he's been blinded. It's one of the first times that you actually feel sorry for him.
