Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A young government biologist named Tyler, played by Charles Martin Smith, is sent to the Yukon to study the wolves, who are believed to be preying upon Caribou herds. What supplies does he take with him?

Answer: canned goods, toilet paper, and beer

Many of the supplies are stored in a canoe, which is carried beneath the plane. When the plane flounders and is too heavy to take off, some of the supplies are given to the locals. Amongst the odd assortment of "necessary items", light bulbs and requistion paper has also been included.
2. The plane carrying Tyler and his supplies freezes in midair. What does the bush pilot do?

Answer: climbs out of the plane

The bush pilot of a nondescript plane, Rosey Little, is played by Brian Dennehy. Rosey climbs out on the wing strut and chips away at the ice, leaving the woefully inadequate researcher to man the plane alone. He then flies Tyler to an isolated and frozen arctic region.
3. Tyler spent his first night in a box, on the middle of the frozen lake. At 5 a.m. he hears howling, and perceives what he believes to be a pack of wolves coming toward him. What does he do?

Answer: climbs under a canoe

A kind and elderly Inuit named Ootek, perceiving Tyler's distress, comes to rescue him. Later Tyler finds all of his supplies neatly stacked outside his hut. During this time neither character speaks a word to each other.
4. Later in the spring, Tyler runs out of canned goods. What is his next source of food?

Answer: eats mice that have invaded his tent

The only thing in abundance is mice, which he makes into a stew and eats, tails and all. His venture into mice-eating is a response to finding evidence that this is what the wolves are eating. He attempts to see if one can live on mice and thrive.
5. The wolves stake out their territory by trying to pull down his tent and urinating on his equipment and supplies. What does Tyler do?

Answer: urinates on his territory

Tyler marks off his territory by urinating the edges of approximately one acre. The wolves do the same on the outside edges of what he has marked off for himself. His comment is the the wolves do in a few minutes what took him 27 cups of tea.
6. The hapless scientist sunbathes on the tundra and hears thunderous noise which turns out to be___________.

Answer: stampeding caribou

As he is sunbathing with his ear to the ground, he hears an unusual rumble and jumps up to see what is happening. It turns out to be hundreds of caribou.
7. As he perceives hundreds of caribou stampeding toward him, what does he do to protect himself from being trampled?

Answer: stampedes with the caribou

This is one of the funniest scenes in the whole movie. As the caribou stampede in waves, the totally nude Tyler runs with the herd.
8. His Inuit interpreter, named Mike, says he went to a bar to pick up girls and they weren't interested when he smiled at them. Why?

Answer: he had no front teeth

Mike, played by Samson Jorah, is an English speaking Inuit who has been educated in America.
9. Tyler finds the wolves to be ferocious and aggressive and quite dangerous to man.

Answer: false

He finds them curious and cautious, and their carnivore activity, on studying their droppings, turns out to be the mice which are in super abundance in that area.
10. His wolf pack friends, whom he has named Angeline and George have disappeared, leaving three cubs. What happened to them?

Answer: they were destroyed for money

His Inuit interpreter now has a beautiful set of teeth, and it is during this time frame that Rosie Little reappears with an expensive new plane. The implication is that one of them killed the wolves. The summary of the film was that the caribou were not being destroyed by the wolves but by mankind and greed.
