Fujimoto is obviously watchful of all his children, as Ponyo has to depend on passing fish and her many smaller sisters to distract him during her escape. Ponyo uses a second jellyfish on top of her "ride" as an airtight canopy for her journey to the surface.

Answer: Sosuke finds her washed up on shore.

Ponyo is trapped in a jar dredged up by a trawling net when Sosuke finds her. Pollution caused by humans also helps foil one of Fujimoto's later attempts to follow Ponyo when he locates her.
