The movie featured Christopher Lee as a hitman named Scaramanga, who used golden bullets and his golden gun to kill his victims. Hervé Villechaise played the part of Scaramanga's little assistant, Nick Nack. Britt Ekland and Maud Adams featured as Bond girls in the movie.

When a Faberge egg from Russia turned up in a 00 agent's dead hands, Bond had to get to the bottom of an art counterfeit ploy, involving Orlov and Khan which led Octopussy to aid Bond in the end. Part of the story featured a circus (by Octopussy) and the knife skills of twins (played by Tony and David Meyer) that Bond (played by Roger Moore) had to evade.

Julian Glover and Topol starred as arch enemies on both sides of the law, (Aristotle Kristatos and Milos Columbo respectively). Bond and Melina had to team up to uncover a plot that involved the murder of Melina's parents and to search for the ATAC (Automatic Targeting Attack Communicator) before it ended up in Russian hands.

Real life ice skater, Lynn Holly-Johnson featured in the movie as Olympic skating hopeful, Bibi Dahl.

This movie saw Desmond Llewelyn's penultimate appearance as Q. Unfortunately, he died in a car crash in 1999.
